I give up on it...

had it running since 8pm flushed ro for 30mins before startin to fill up.. now waiting for the TDS to come down from when you first turn it on.. it takes hoursssssssssssss to come down its still 42tds and am waitin for it to drop normaly down to 24TDS

i dont no whats wrong with this system but my tap pressure is 39 - 40PSI puster pump running im gettin 80 - 84PSI constant and it prodcues around 27-28 litres per hour

If it's new don't you need to flush for a lot longer? Are you reading with a hand held tds meter?

it was new few months ago all thats been flushed out.

no a hand held meter.


i flushed it again then with the pump on this time for more pressure the TDS went down 24 then after a few more litres went to 26 then after a few more 30 now 32!

iv only been using it since mid jan this year but... were you guys mite be using 1500 litres a week am properly only using around 200 250 if that! the clear prefilter carbon the first one in line looks basicly bran new.. theres one or two signs of muck build up from the water but you have to get really close to see it.

At max operating output on the 200gpd should produce around 757 litres based on 24hrs running which = around 31 liters ph so 28ltrs isn't that far off.

I'm the same as you at the moment Dave using 200gpd freedom Ro and getting around 28 ltrs ph using pump running at 80 psi. My water in is around 110 and getting 0.00 out. I agree it's painfully slow and only run the system for 12hr day due to pump annoying everyone with it constant droning.

However, I've just ordered the Ro-Man 100gpd upgrade to make it a 300gpd RO

It should be with me on Wednesday and in theory should enable me to make around 45 ltrs ph or 1135 per 24 or around 540 ltrs per 12  hr.

your outlet tds is far too high, even at 24ppm!

I would have a word with Andrew McCann @ freedom, I'm sure he will get it sorted for you.

My advice - don't mess around with little ro units - buy something bigger like a merlin or 4040, the extra expense will pay for itself time and time again.

Pitmonkey i dont have a 200GPD its a 300GPD so if your getting 28lit i should get a little more!

atho my tap TDS is 400 odd.


Thats another thing the pump making the noise which mines in the path so its quite loud at night when everything is calm outside so dont run it over night either which is another pain.

if i new all this i would of bought something else

a merlin is only about £250

should bring the tds down to around 20ppm or less.

Can you use the small RO man pump with a 4040 Ro? as my tap pressure is only around 39-40psi ?

I think the pump is OK for the Merlin but the 4040 needs the heavy duty pump £199. I read a post of others using a red pump with their 4040 cant remember the name at mo. Someone will mention it though

no the pump isn't big enough for a merlin.

carnt really use one of them dont have the space tbh.. nor the money  a 4040 would be stretching my boundrys.

i dont spose you can connect those pumps up with garden hose either can you? from outside tap.

oh definitely I'd be ringing freedom but if the situation doesn't improve I would honestly go for a merlin at least, you might get away with tap pressure of 40psi, I'd try it first and if it needs a pump then i'd get one.

if money is tight and you can't do anything with the ro you have then at the very least change the membranes but it sounds to me that either the membranes aren't plumbed how they should be or they aren't fitted into the housings correctly.

a smaller ro should in theory give better quality water.

what about a softener?  If your water is high in calcium that could well be the problem.

Strange isn't it, I have a small 200 gallon R/O, input TDS approx 0.150 ppm, output from R/O 0.002 ppm. and then 0.000 ppm after resin.
The current membranes (2 of them)  are about a year old, prefilters around 6 months old and it takes about 30 hours to produce a 1000 litres at a tap pressure of  85 psi, and that is enough to keep two people supplied with pure water (me & squeaky).

So for me I see no reason to buy a 4040 R/O...but if my R/O was only bringing my output water down to something like 0.045 ppm I'd certainly be considering it.

What is the tap water TDS?
 Correctly pressured, your R/O should be able to reduce the TDS by at least 95%

know it souns silly but are you putting it through a DI cannister before you fill your tank, as my tds is 329-389ppm at the tap and 000 in the tank, but without the DI its about 30ppm out of the RO system

yes it goes from the RO into a pressure vessel because am using a trolley so when it goes into the tank its 0.00tds
