The problem is once a picture has been posted on a public forum such as this then its fair game to be copied unless copyright across the pic somewhere.Its quite a compliment that someone uses your site to prove a point.

Didn't know it was you as you do not call yourself Kev formula6 on your website.

I wondered if it was anyone on here, I do not have too much of a problem with people 'borrowing' but issues do arise when it is in direct competition as in this case.

The internet is based on sharing/linking so we have to accept a certain amount and I am not stressed about it.

Hi,

If hes hotlinking your files, change the file on your site... ie remane the image and then remane the tag that displays the image.

Create a new image and name it with the old name.  Make the image big and red with flashing text "I will ruin your carpets" or "I am a thieving vagrant" or "Warning!! I am on the sex offenders register" or the likes.

This will be displayed on his site and it will make him change the hotlinking.

There are also settings on most web hosts that will stop the hotlinking, but make browsers with referers disabled not work either.

I like the new image method.

Seems I have an awful lot to learn about the internet !!!!!!!!!!!What did occur to me when reading this, is the similarity to Newspaper or Y P, etc,  advertising where it's very difficut to avoid duplication, or when several people who use the same products / machines, advertise, or they are part of a Marketing group, or part of a User group.

I suppose  what becomes most evident, is the need to establish a clear, USP, or a distinctive LOGO, or a MEMORABLE name, maybe something simple, like Mike Halliday has put to good use, HIMSELF.

Incidentally, there are some really good looking sites emerging, but an awfull lot are falling into a marketing black hole.................wonder how many others have noticed, what's been glaringly obvious to me, for some time ..................

why don't you just tell people if you think or know that they have rip off your stuff. as its already been pointed out one it does get confusing when someone let someone else use some text and then it get copied, then it get ripped. its important to get this right.

lets be upfront and adult about this.

here is a really good example. I like a product and machine so i use this product info to show to my prospects the benefits of this product. using their words. now this producer abjects to the use of this and ask me to remove the text. so i do. now how mad is it in this internet world that you cant write speak about a product but you could if spoken.

so you decide to use your own words this time not mentioning the name or use any promotional material just say you using the machine or product (this product is so unique that everyone know what it is) and now you could offend the producer. misrepresenting their product.

do you every time you want to write about something have to get permission? you would think that they would enjoy the FREE advertising?
