To pre vac or not to pre vac?
«
on:
February 04, 2008, 07:20:39 pm »
on first job this morning sebo blew so had to go to second and third job vac free, both were minging.
Just pre-sprayed, agitated and rinsed an normal and the results were just the same as if id vacced.
The question is does pre-vac really make any difference. I would never have dreamed of cleaning this way, but i was left with no choice.
Does anyone honestly vac religiously on all jobs and please be honest?

Hi Mark,
I only pre vac when needed. I.e custy hasn't already (or has made a bad job of it), lots of dust, dry soil or bits on carpet. Most of the time custy has done it already so dont bother.

I always do as well, Its is a requirement of NCCA membership that you pre vac all jobs. All the directors that I have ever spoken to say it should be done.
Some do, some dont but i prefer to as it is part of the package.

Like Dave, never. But then I presume it depends on what kind of a machine you are using to clean the carpets with

I would have thought a thorough pre vac was a routine part of the cleaning proccess, one of the first things i was taught was good pre vac was of great importance,
and again whilst taking the iicrc course , it is a fundemental part of the proccess as i am sure it is with the ncca,
so in a nutshell, both advocate pre vaccing, and if your not pre vaccing you are going against what you were taught
Im not saying its wrong not to pre vac, I am just doing the best i can.
thats what I was taught , so thats what I do. and if somebody can give me a good logical reason not to vac, I will listen with interest

How long do you have? There are plenty of reasons why not to vac just as there are plenty of reasons why too vac.
Come to the ccdo and I will go through the whys and why nots.
Or of course you could just read the many many posts already on this subject.
Best, Dave.

I aggitate with an envirodri on most jobs. The amount of muck/ hair and base crap it pulls out even after a full pre vac is amazing. For that reason I no longer pre vac unless there is a lot of dust or hair around the edges.
After I have aggitated with the enviro dri I will vac the excess of the surface with he truck hose before HWE.

I was taught to drive with my hands at 9 and 3 o'clock on the steering wheel.
That changed when I was driving home with my pass certificate in my back pocket
.
Just because its the 'correct' thing to do doesn't mean its necessary

Hi Guys
Depends on too many things to list but being a professional you make judgements.
Pre Vac, yes or no,how much, what type , prespray yes or no , which one etc etc.
What temp, wet or dry, green or high pH .
As you become more experienced , black and white turn to grey ...........
Cheers
Doug
