On impact a bolt could snap pull through etc. but a strap woulb stretch quite a way before breaking therefore taking up a lot of the inertia out of the tank (load)
 Thats why they are used on lorries etc, if it was more sequre they'd bolt the load down.

they are used on lorries to secure loads for speed IMO, I  cant see them making different bolts for every different load they carry some how, can you imagine the driver saying hold on give me a hour or two I have to undo 100 bolts  :
if bolts are not as secure why do they bolt seats down ? surely they would strap them down

Are those bolts tested to withstand a sudden impact,mainly those types of bolts that we would use to hold the tank in place are used for RSJ beams and such like,they are made to take loads yes but are they made to not snapped in a sudden impact when tons of pressure are put on them in a nano second,belts will stretch before the full force is put on them in a way acting as a spring.

Let it drop NWH. My understanding of inertia says that you are correct, but some of the counter points are valid too.

Some of the upright tanks are death traps and clearly need a torsion bar between them and the bulk head, but everyone  has their own opinions and those opinions in many cases are  fixed.

My tank isn't that well secured either, and I haven't got protectacote. It does have many advanced features though.

One advanced feature on my system that I would like but haven't got yet is an electric motor rewind system for my reel. I keep hoping that some clever soul will have cracked this but as you can see from the standard of the posts calling me a tit etc I am not holding my breath

Well I'll admitt i was a bit snappy with Luke at the begining of this thread.

And maybe I've come in once or twice and re-ignited interest, but joking aside I am interested in a better system. I like to my work to be easy and winding the reel back in  when you work as fast as I am able to do with my hot and advanced system is a real chore.

If you have a lead NWH i would be very interested. I have noticed that your posts are very mature, incisive, and witty.

Thanks. I had a look and was quite impressed, that is the sort of thing I want. The price doesn't matter (i'm a tit remember), but i'd want some sort of control. My hose often get's tangled and caught (yes even me with with super flexible hose because it's hot).So I don't want it wrapped round my ankle and pulling like mad.

IMO this is what this thread is about. If someone has a rewinding reel as part of their system that is a real advance. Lifting the reel in and out of the van for every job is just stupid.

So what's expensive for a 100m electic 12v rewinding reel?

Sorry to but in on this love affair, but i have noticed several people on here have there reels mounted way inside the van so either they take it out to work or they have to clamber into the van to wind it in. I have mine mounted right up to the back doors so i can wind in stood at the back. I find i never need to take the reel out these days.

Mines at the back door too, but secured to the floor, because there is no way I'm lifting an Ionics stainless steel hosereel out with 130m of microbore as they weigh a ton. The hosereel is pricey, I agree, but it's my preferred choice, rather than the popular cheaper ones on sale which I'm not knocking either, simply because I use to store 250-300m of minibore on it for some regular jobs. Also, it's a lot more sturdy and easier/quicker to reel in the hose (because of the large diameter hosereel, so less turns on the handle), so less fatigue

How on earth do you guys lock the van then?!

Pull the hose half way back round the reel when you`ve got enough length and feed it between the 2 doors under the rubber seal in the middle of the doors,very rarely i need to lock the doors 2 miles down a bumpy track.
