HWE+BW=?
« on: October 19, 2007, 06:26:23 pm »

I'm just wondering if I have done the right thing, any better options with this customer?

Went to do a quote yesterday and on the phone she asked if I do 'steam cleaning' and I said yes.

Turns up and immediately thought BW. Checked the backing and did a float test to confirm.

To cut a long story short she's oldish, bad eysight and is allergic to everything (alledgedly). I suggested LM but she insisted on 'steam only' cleaning. Tried to explain presprays etc but she wasn't having any of it.

So I said I'd do it but with some sort of waiver.

Now, I'm not so sure. My plan was pre vac using the Speedster power, sneaky mist with m/s (say I have to dampen it) aggitate and extract at only 100psi, with lots of dry strokes, doing the smallest room first.

All grippers are good bar one which will need sorting.

I've still time to walk away.

Hi Mike

My BW technique for HWE is to spray lightly above the carpet and extract , this should ensure water does not penetrate.

If some areas are not responding then clean those as normal, but balance it by very lightly cleaning under settees etc.

This has worked for me many times.

If a BW is fitted well you can use quite a lot of water but go carefully, shrinkage will become evident within 15 - 20 mins.

If you walk what are you going to do next time ?

Cheers

Doug

Hi Mike

It sounds rather odd to me that your customer insists on steam cleaning (HWE) rather than allowing you, a professional CCer, to decide on the most appropriate method.  I assume that this is due to her allergy and advice she's received in this respect from others, or her own limited knowledge of the techniques.

Thanks for replies. I will take care.

Yes, I didn't do a very good job educating her. She still thinks it's steam that does the cleaning and despite several approaches to explain it wasn't going in.

In the end I thought best all round to go along with it.

Cleaned 100's of B/W with no probs.

Lots of hype about them.

The old b/w were a problem but the ones produced to day are very hard to shrink so much so it even states no shrinkage on the back of he carpet info ( have a look next time your in carpet right etc).

Mike just go as you have stated keeping psi low and plenty of dry strokes, you will be fine ;)

Same as paul .Never had one shrink(yet) . Vac, pre spray, aggitate, turn pressure down on my machine , extract, then blow dry. I done my first B/W (HSL) a month after the NCCA course and I disagree was Knitting buttons. Called cust next day and she was over the moon. Never looked back .
