if i used them myself everyday then i would spend a bit of money but not when the workers abuse things, i have been thinking about the x tels but arn;t they suppose to be quite whippy?

All you need is a replacement clamp. 

Why replace the pole length when it's cheaper to replace the clamp.

If the pole is really worn at the top through constantly tigtening the clamp in the fully extended position you can always reduce the length of the pole where it is worn and use it as a spare but shorter pole.
