Is my clamp worn on one of my poles?
« on: October 02, 2007, 11:30:10 am »
got one of my 18ft ionic glass fibre poles, the top end keeps slipping down when the clamp is done up tight, the clamp will not tighten anymore so i wondered if i would just need a new clamp or would i need the thinest section of pole as well? could this be worn?

thanks

I would replace the clamp first because its cheaper then see how it goes then if needed replace the section, Luke

A new clamp will help cure your problem.

The section will also be worn but a clamp will keep you going for many more months.

Depends which pole it is.

Multipole, Universal, Ergolite.

you could shave some material from the clamp and get more life from it for now at no cost.

NO not your pole ::) If you look at your clamp you will see that when you lock it two surfaces will come together on the screw thread preventing you from tightening it any more.

Nat,

I'm assuming that you have already adjusted the nut on the clamp?

Remember it's a left handed thread, so you think you are loosening it to tighten it.

If you've already done this, then you can remove the clamp and file down the two edges that touch together to give you more play.

Other than that it is likely that you need a new top section.

How  old is the pole, with constant use I find they only last about 6 months.

the pole is around 10 months old and has been constantly used, the top section has had about 4 inches cut off the top where it shattered from the brush head.

I'm only gonna use it as a spare now but there ain't no point chucking it if it can be fixed.

Dave, it was a joke mate, read it again ;)

Sounds to me like your pole has worn away  :'(

The Ionics glass fibre ergo-lite the sections wear away very fast :o >:(

If you want a good pole thats going to last and you dont mind spending some serious money go for a facelift pole  8)

If you want something thats cheap and light go for an ex-tel  8)
