Plasterers dust
« on: September 21, 2007, 04:56:22 pm »
Hi

Did a job today, customer pleased, but i did not manage to get out the mess left by the plasterers. I don't know if it fell onto the carpet as a dust or wet?

Anyone got this stuff out or is it classed as a dye?

Regards

Martim,
could you not tell whether the plaster was dry or the actual mixed plaster that had gone onto the floor?

I would have though that if it was dry, the worst thing you could have done is to h/w/e if this was the method you used.
I did a job a while back , part of a  ceiling had collapsed, the plasterers left limited amounts of mixed plaster on carpet but lots of dry. Vaccuum, Vacuum, Vaccum, with plenty of good stiff brushing in between did the trick, the wet plaster disintegrated and simply vaccumed up . when the carpet looks as though its somewhere normal  , the the normal cleaning procedure can take place. worked fine for me and custy happy.

Martin you may struggle using dry system.
I would spray eco spotter and extract with hwe, this usually works or you could use Prochem ultra pac renovate, dwell, extract. If you have no equipment for HWE then try Solutions eco spotter and towell out.
Obviously you full vacced first  ;)

Hi all,
Also watch for the use of PVA adhesive in the mix. Plasterers use this to get a good bond, but if it hits the carpet there are problems. I normally can remove plaster  by the stiff brushing and vac route, but the PVA addition seems to allow the plaster to dye the carpet.  I understand that Gypsum plaster is aimed to be at a pH of 7 -8 but can range between 4 and 12 which probably gives another range of issues that Doug may be able to advise on

Hi

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help & advice.

I did vac with my sebo and stiff brushed, it didn't move a bit. it looks like a stain rather than just dry powder. By what the customer was saying it went on wet, he kept wishing the plasterers had put plastic under the dust sheet.

I did use my EnviroDri for the whole carpet, got a dog mess stain out and other coffee's and the usual 'unknown' stains, although looks like their cleaner is using the vanish, 1001, off the shelf gear. Spotted quite a few white spots on their beige carpet.

Thanks again gents, always great to have a sounding board.
