could you not tell whether the plaster was dry or the actual mixed plaster that had gone onto the floor?
I would have though that if it was dry, the worst thing you could have done is to h/w/e if this was the method you used.
I did a job a while back , part of a ceiling had collapsed, the plasterers left limited amounts of mixed plaster on carpet but lots of dry. Vaccuum, Vacuum, Vaccum, with plenty of good stiff brushing in between did the trick, the wet plaster disintegrated and simply vaccumed up . when the carpet looks as though its somewhere normal , the the normal cleaning procedure can take place. worked fine for me and custy happy.
