Insured or not insured?
« on: May 17, 2007, 07:06:10 pm »
Recently heard back from my insurance company HSBC. The question i wanted them to answer was does my policy covered me to work on cars (interior valeting) they told me that i'm covered but not on the item i am cleaning ie seat etc so i turned around to them and said so basically i'm not covered then and they repeated the above but sounded abit confused themselves. I love the way they try and tell you, your covered for this and that when actually you are not what a bunch of wxxxers!

Hi

PL ins works that way.

It doesn't cover what you are actually working on (weird I know)

So if you are cleaning your seat and as you turn you break the rearview which causes you to rip the seat, the mirror is covered not the seat.

Bizarre!

I had so many conversations with different insurance companies when I was looking for my first policy because of this,  I thought they were all trying to rip me off.

I`ve ended up with 4 different policies now, I reckon if I as much as fart wrong I should be covered, but then they will still try to worm out of it.

biggest bunch of conmen going  :o

i have a policy with  Norwich Union and it explicitly states that the treatment risk covers for items worked on (have re-read it many times to make sure)

never claimed tho so cant say in pratical if they will pay out ???

Be careful if you are insured with different companies for the same risks.
You may find that this invalidates the policies with all of them!!!!!

I'm insured with the NFU.

Some years ago, a carpet shrunk on me. Not usually a problem, but the gripper dammaged part of the carpet which I could not fix. So I made a claim as the carpet was rather expensive.

The loss adjuster got back to me and said, their not going to cover you, due to wording in the policy.
He said this was totally wrong and they should have insured you.

To cut a long story short, I sent them a  long letter pointing out that the policy said, insured for property worked upon. I also pointed out that I had been mis-sold the policy and that many other tradesmen with the same policy may be worried that they wern't now insured and I may have to seek legal advice.

I got a letter back saying...it's ok, we will cover you  ::)

This policy has a no claims bonus, so the payments reduce every year. The payment have kept reducing every year since, and I never heard from them again....it's like I never made a claim?

So look at your policy carefully and if they don't want to pay, give em sh*t!
