Is it quite in the south east?
« on: April 21, 2007, 05:42:34 pm »
Hi guys. Nice to be back on this sit again.

I am just wondering if any of you guys in the south east of England are quite as well?
We keep advertising on different levels and even sending mail shots to our clients, but this year we have noticed that is so slow.

Regards

Bosh

its quite in the north, I posted recently that this has been my worst week in 16 years for new business.

Gordon has left us all in the Brown again, mortgage rates going up etc.

We just have to tough it out, i am sure it wont be long before we turn a corner.

Just started to pick up here.

As homeclean said, it's a combination of things that mean people don't have a lot of spare dosh.

Just ask B&Q! People don't have the money to spend on their houses at the moment.

What we have to do is educate the public that by having their carpets cleaned they can make them last longer and thus save money in the long term. It's also the greener option is that there won't be so many carpets going in landfills if they are regularly cleaned..

Well at least I know that we are not alone.
I just feel sorry for some guys who have just started this business and if it carries on like this I am sure some of them would be out of business soon.
We are a little lucky we don’t do just carpet cleaning , we do window cleaning as well as office and domestic cleaning and that just about gets us going.

But I think we are coming to a mini resection. They always say it always comes around every 10 years, so I think the good times are now over and be prepared for hard times a head.

It has been harder this year, i'm ususally booked up for weeks but this year a week ish, but at the moment I can't put a foot wrong so I'm not complaining.

One of the best days training I had was when I went out with Mike Halliday for a day, the bloke must have swallowed E's when he was a bern, there's no stopping him................well Starbucks in Beverley occassionally does.

I am a carpet fitter based in central/west London who also does a bit of cc

In the four years I have been following this forums I have noticed that the  bad times in cc exactly reflect the carpet trade in general.

The carpet trade in London is very slow at the moment.

Fully booked to May 24th at the moment. All work in and around London. Its about what I would expect for this time of year.

This is not as good as it sounds. I dread the sound of the phone ringing every day at the moment. People expect a faster service.

Interesting comment from Shaun.............this is a guy who's been in the biz' for about 12 years, but not afraid, or too pig headed. to seek advice elsewhere.

Mike is clearly, by his posts, a very confident individual, who not only " talks the talk "but " walks the walk ".

When I attended Glasgow University Business School ...........many moons ago, it was guys like Mike, who were invited by our Lecturers to " tell it like it is "and almost without exception, they were, first of all CONFIDENT IN THEMSELVES

Having this kind of confidence, with a clean, tidy, professional appearance, has a positive impact on prospective clients!

From Shaun's comments...........I get the impression, that Mike is not the type to sit in an office, waiting for the phone to ring.
