Fans and filters in paint spray booths
« on: January 25, 2007, 12:00:18 pm »
Hi guys,
I got a call yesterday from a company I sent an intro letter to who said they have loads of calls (from clients I guess) who ask if they clean the filters and fans etc in spray booths.

This company sells and installs spray booths and said they can give me work local or as far as I'm willing to travel.

I've done a search on here and there is only 1 topic relating to this, but it was about cleaning paint from the inside.

The chap from the company said it was dirty work and you'd probably need scaffolding tower. So, I was thinking it'll be the fan, all the duct work, I would imagine you'd change the filter paper, other than that I haven't got a clue!

I'd like to move toward this specialist area because the office cleaning is not growing fast enough, but how would I go about getting training. Obviously this would be industrial too wouldn't it?

I got a call in 06 to clean kitchen extractor fan, ductwork etc so I realise there is a major H&S risk.

Has anyone got experience of cleaning spray booth extractors?

Thanks in advance
Paul

Hi Paul

Before starting in the cleaning industry i ran a paint shop with two booths running all day, They could not pay me enough to get into that work now!!!!

The booths can be in a right state, the primary and secondary filters are a million miles away from the paper type you'd find in a kitchen. We had special firms to come in and "commision" the booths annually. After watching those boys emerge after their shift full of all sorts of dust and filth i decided to go with oven cleaning because its cleaner :o.

Only my opinion, but after 10 years in the painting game i would avoid it like the plague, and i dont turn any work down ;D!!!!!

 Regards

Andrew

We clean spray booths including the extractors for a paint manufacturer every week, there is quite a bit to it, but its all do-able. I did years of kitchen extracts, and as Andrew said its nothing like it. However it is still without question a filthy job.

There are many types of booths, so it is tough to give advice without a better idea of what you are looking at.

However, I am happy to answer any questions, if you do decide to try it.

Sorry just read your second part, and yes I would also be interested in doing the work if you decided to hand it on.
