Ooh, not so sure now! But this article says so, although it indicates cfr ozone?
ABC Cleaning Services, an eco cleaning specialist for domestic and commercial customers, is launching a detergent-free, ozone-assisted cleaning system, The Ultimate Clean, which is kind on soft furnishings but fatal to bacteria, viruses and mites – including the rampant bed bugs which have recently plagued both Sydney and New York. The company will be demonstrating its new product at the Catering and Hotel Exhibition, Bournemouth on 8-9 March, 2006.
Ideal for hotels, hospitals, rest homes and halls of residence, ABC Cleaning Services’ system is the first ozone-based cleaning system, now available in the UK, to use a new type of sanitation process imported from the USA. Stateside, the system has proved itself in the natural sterilisation of all soft fabrics - especially carpets, sofas, mattresses and curtains. As the ozone-based product not only cleans but removes all bacteria and mites from furnishings, it reduces allergens and potentially dangerous viruses such as MRSA. All treated fabrics dry within two hours of cleaning - so hotels, hospitals and halls of residence can make rooms available on the same day as treatment.
Research from Berglund & Associates* revealed that the ozone product, when introduced into the continuous flow recycling (CFR) system, had a 99% success rate at removing microbial contamination from carpets - including E coli and the common pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which thrives in medical environments. A more comprehensive study conducted by the University of Minnesota School of Public Health demonstrated the disinfecting power of ozone in the CFR system against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms. Cleaning carpet swatches which had a heavy microbial load resulted in a 91- 96% reduction in the unwanted ‘nasties’.
Furthermore, Tamarack Environmental Inc. treated a metropolitan school in Minnesota, USA, where staff members were suffering respiratory distress. The company found traditional vacuuming techniques, followed by hot water extraction, doubled levels of the fungus - Aspergillus versicolor - in the carpet. A second treatment attempt using a biocide 'oxine' caused another 50% increase in microbial levels. However, treatment using the CFR ozone assisted cleaning system removed 93-99% of all viable spores.
Bob Davis, managing director of ABC Cleaning Services, comments: 'Our new service uses ozone to clean and sterilise all fabrics within any room. Ozone is the second most powerful oxidant known to man - only fluorine gas is stronger. I hope all public premises will periodically be treated with this method, which will reassure guests that their rooms are clean and free from infections. Our treatment system will also eradicate the growing infestations of bed bugs that have recently swept both New York and Sydney. Guests will rest undisrupted while it really is RIP to bacteria and bugs.'
