Hi Philip
When I quote and invoice for window cleaning services they are always separate. I ensure the client knows I sub contract.
Some clients think 'well if they are not directly employed by the cleaning company I may as well find my own as it may be cheaper' and others think 'if the cleaning company use them they must know their work is up to standard and the hassle of arranging the service is theirs'. So this can be a bit swings and roundabouts.
I have been very lucky with subbing windows and no one that I have used so far has 'poached' the client.
Having said that I do not add on profit to the contractors quotation - only enough to cover admin and there have even been times where I have charged the client at cost. This is because I try to offer a holistic package. If I can offer a reasonably priced no hassle cleaning and window cleaning service the client tends to follow through and use me for other services such as janitorials, deep cleaning, carpet cleaning etc, and like the window cleaning all of these are quoted and invoiced separate.
The reason I do it this way is exactly as you say Philip - I do not to want to risk 'lose one, lose all' and prefer to be upfront. Not sure what is common practice with other companies though.
Jamiesroom - Look back through this thread I have already answered your question about insurance. However if anyone knows different then I wish them all the patience in the world to explain it!
