Wfp tank. Is it a Modification for Van insurance?
« on: October 26, 2006, 07:19:36 pm »
I have been trying to sort some van Insurance out for my son for His new van.

Now some companys flatly refused to insure him (Gladiator) for one because a tank was to be fitted in the van.

Is originial Ins quote was rescinded when we asked them to double check that they were aware he would be a water tank in the van.

My Insurance company Commercial Vehicle Direct said the van was classed as a modifcation and the premium was £2133.00.

Now I want to know how have you wfp gone on with your Van Insurance, As your insurance company classed it as a modification therefore putting up the premium.

Many thanks.

Nel.

That's a good point - is it a part of the van (modification) or something being carried (goods)? It's not a permanent fixture IMO, but it will probably be strapped down pretty tight.

Frankly if anyone nicks my tank then who cares, but if I run over little Johnny and they won't pay out cuz' they claim my van's "modified" then that's a worry.
It's a game of three halves!

I'm insured with Royal Sun Alliance through More Than. I declared my van mount as a modification, and they asked the value of the van which was £5k and the value of the system which was £5k, so they put the insurance value of the van at £10 k. But did not increase the premium for having a tank in the back. They did ask if the tank was professionally fitted  eg. by manufactuere or an mechanical engineer.
