Has anybody done this ?

I have been looking at TM`s recently, with a view to purchase and noticed that they are considerably cheaper in usa.

What implications are there importing?

I would be intereted in hearing from any one who has done this.

Make you'll have to make sure you pay the:-

Import Duty
VAT which is seperate from IDuty
Transport cost
Truckmount don't fit on a standard pallet so handeling fees can be high,
Insurance in transit( don't strickly need this if your a gambling man)
Customs agent in US they may wish to inspect your cargo so you need a agent.
Shipping agent here to clear UK customs
Be able to make a CHAPS payment to IR on day goods clear before they are released
ANd lastly pick up from ( airport or docks) ( heathrow or thamesport) and delivery to your premises



Sounds a little bit more complicated, does'nt it? theres so much more involved than ordering a wand or hand tools as they can just post/fed ex those,and sometime the post office miss the fact theres duty to pay

There definatly are savings to be made for sure, but you can end up with no savings and genrating a lot of hassel for yourself,   also which machine do you want as most manufacturers have dealer in the UK or europe and won't sell direct to you. If you do buy it make sure you get service kits/belts/hoses (internal and external)  and other spare parts as well.

Think most who do it succesfully actually go over to seal the deal and shipping and use the saving to have a little hoilday!

And when your trailer mounted machine arrives you find some faceless idiot has packed it into a container and forgot to strap it down properly! Oh and the axel and tow hitches have to be changed to comply with EU reg I now know this because a nice man in a Volvo T5 with blue lights told me so on my way home. ( he only stoped me because my trailer lights where broken)

They must be moved around the states on a pallet, so shipping them overseas cant be that different.

yep! they come palletised (but not standard euro size pallets)and boxed..........in the biggest cardboard boxes you've ever seen! when I've bought them they have come that way. I usually have 2 pallets though as the reels hoses tank and all the other bits come in the same shipment.

when I win the lottery I'm going to start a company building T/Ms In this country.

you can buy the engines, the blowers & pumps all you need to import is the heat exchanger which from what I can gather the best you can get are from John's Custom Machine, Inc. in Florida @ £400ish.

you could go from a 11hp Yanmar diesal right up to a JCB 65hp turbo Diesal.

why bother, just buy a proper one that works and looks right. You dont make your own cars do you ?

what about a man to put it together? wow I think you're onto something

there are so many fingers in the pie that no one person actually gets the extra 750% mark up.

Maker has to build it and pay for workshop and heating, insurance and others to make it, then it may have to go to be tested for BSI or US equivalent, then marketed and then there's trade shows, the distributors and distribution costs, and the distributor having to have insurance and premises also allowing for faulty machines, breakage, accountants cost and alot lot more you can see how it adds up.

Best to make your own with a bit of sticky black plastic.

plus half those things you mention is what goes wrong with them

I have a engine turning a blower and pump plumbed into a 100gl of hot water no switches guages, primers etc... works perfect

I'm sure if it was a profitable enterprise somebody would be doing it. It obviously isn't. The UK market is too small and there would be no opportunity for exporting.

I don't think the market is too small, the same technology could also adapted to build pressure washers, you could export with in the EU

and with a small fabrication shop you could offer S/S shelves, tanks and other accessories

and most truckmount seller also sell a range of chemicals

wait until i win the lottery then you'll see
