i decided to take up window cleaning and my husband said he would help as he was short of work , he took the mick out of me climbing the ladder as i had never climbed one before in my life , i was also scared of heights but i tried , he told me i would never make it as a window cleaner so i proved him wrong for 6yrs now i have been  running my own business window cleaning i have worked hard on MY OWN !!! and built my round up he (after a month) went back to his carpentry because it was too cold and his joints ached (poor old sod) . Yes it's hard and at times i would like some company but i just plod on

Do you have an accountant? If so he should have advised you years ago to make your wife Self Employed and put money towards her tax allowance.

Even if an accountant was to charge you £500 you would have saved this in tax.

My wife worked at another job till this summer, tax paid, pension too.
I stopped using accountants 20 years ago, have done it all ouselves since.
£500 to check my orderly books and say, 'very nice'!

The thing is, they know all the loopholes to get tax liability down.

If you do become a partnership, you will have 3 sets of figures to fill out.

Yours, wifes and partnership.

Admitted you need someone you trust, I have known mine for over 20 years, but they are invaluable when you earn over 20k as you tax liability becomes serious. If you earn 10-15k I wouldnt bother, the tax office dont check up anyone less than 15k.

my Mrs comes out a couple of days a week with me, we have a good laugh a few water fights me standing on her hose etc, also customers like to see her when she ain't with me they always ask after her, i wouldn't be without her helping the odd days, i would miss the laughs.

bad points - sickness, not as strong, only does bottoms, pmt, argueing, lazyness rubs off on you. too much time with each other? no extra definite income in the bad times ie, bad weather.

what annoys me is my wife worked for years with different national cleaning company's as a cleaner then supervisor and know's exactly how long and how many staff would be needed for a cleaning contract but she wont entertain the self employment or extension of my business into contract cleaning but hey ho thats how it goes sometimes :

My wife has been my partner for about 12 years. The only thing she woulnt do is work off a ladder. Other than that she's better than any man I've worked with wfp and trad.

Yes my wife is my partner my partner is my wife .  Easier than I first thought.  We've worked together for 27 years but never formed a "tax" partnership.  Mainly due to misleading complicated mis-information.  We got it going officially back in 2006,  it's gone well just hope present economic cutback drive doesn't send things back to Dickensian London poverty.
