The reason it has to be plugged in is the shut off valve. If there is no power the shutoff valve is closed so no water goes in.It is handy to have the shut off but it does need power. One thing to be careful of is that, as your float switch is 'balanced' in the tank filler it might get stuck and not shut off the water and flood the van!
Only power mine requires is for booster pump.....does the shut off valve kick in when the float valve shuts off water to the tank so when you're full no water is running through the system?

Was going to say same......mine's left in garage and just got enough hose to reach outside tap, drain and van inlet.
Usually all the RO membranes I see lie horizontal but this one is vertical. Does it make any difference?
