Mine only works when I plug it in. Apparently this is not usually the case. PureFreedom never even mentioned this in the description when I ordered it. I was not expecting a float valve either but I'm very happy this is installed too as it will save me overfilling my tank.

Is yours a powered RO system too?

The reason it has to be plugged in is the shut off valve. If there is no power the shutoff valve is closed so no water goes in.

It is handy to have the shut off but it does need power. One thing to be careful of is that, as your float switch is 'balanced' in the tank filler it might get stuck and not shut off the water and flood the van!

Thanks Ched. It's not like I'll be leaving it to purify my water overnight but the float switch works perfectly. As soon as the water level reaches the top of the float it rises up shutting off the water. The only thing is I better make sure the solenoid and wires on the RO are covered if it's raining.

Only power mine requires is for booster pump.....does the shut off valve kick in when the float valve shuts off water to the tank so when you're full no water is running through the system?

Ched is spot on.

The solenoid valves are Normally closed and only open when powered and the circuit in the solenoid is under power. As soon s power is removed the valve closes

I've only used it a few times as I'm using the resin left in my 2 x 25L vessels to fill up. DI vessels are currently coming out at 006 so I reckon one last fill tomorrow after work and it'll hit 010 so I'll chuck it away and use the RO exclusively from then on.

Hopefully it'll save me thousands of pounds over the next 5 years or so.👍

Why do you need to wheel it out to your van Daz? Mines fixed in the garage, I ran a water supply to it, surely that’s easier?

That looks real good mate, and them wheels look really sturdy. So you just wheel this out, plug the hoses in and then a few hours later its filled up your 500 litre tank ? I think thats pretty impressive. Well done.

Usually all the RO membranes I see lie horizontal but this one is vertical. Does it make any difference?

The reason why is due to the float switch. The cable to the float switch from the solenoid valve isn't very long. It also carries a low voltage. The longer the cable the lower the voltage drop in the cable.

No it doesn't matter. Mine is vertical.
However, pf have opted to put it upside down which I wouldn't have done. The inlet on my r/o is at the bottom and the outlets (pure and waste) are at the top.

Another thing dazmond needs to be cautious of is not to let the water drain out of the r/o when he is finished filling his van.
