Slate floor cleaning.
« on: December 05, 2018, 07:11:42 pm »
Hi,

I used to be on here a few years ago but I have forgotten my account details.

I'm trying to clean a slate floor in the kitchen.  I can't get it to cup up very clean and as advised before I should use a honing powder.  The trouble is, I would need a machine in order to for this to work properly.  I've used one of these before and they're pretty heaving and cumbersome and there are many corners and even an island unit for me to work around.  Can you buys suggest a smaller machine I might be able to use which would do the job which wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to purchase?  Or maybe even hire?  I've been into Brandon's and they only have a large floor machine.  The kitchen measures about 5 meters by 4 meters.  Thanks.

Slate can require any number of combinations of machines and chemicals to clean and restore.  These variables are down to how dirty it is and what if any type of sealer is on it.  It doesn’t always require a honing powder but does usually require a High Alkaline Cleaner along with a Mono Rotary Machine and more importantly the machine needs a water tank, drive board and a brush.  Regarding the size and weight most are around 31-44 kg and range between 13-17” in diameter.  Regarding cost in my opinion you get what you pay for.  I have used machines between £300 to £1000 in stock but I also have new machines starting at £495 up to the sky is the limit. We also hire machines.    Size, diameter and weight around kitchens and many other tricky areas is not normally a problem it is  more about the skill of the operator that is more important.  Feel free to call me for further advice or help.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm considering what to do.  Even thinking of popping along to one of your courses.
