Too right Daz , 12 years ago i started up with a flojet 60 , high on amps and noisy as heck , changed to shurflo 100 and have 2 of them now , 1 is 11 years old and the other is 10 !
Neither of them have had anything new at all , the one in the pics above is in bits as it has a noisy main bearing but still works fine , its just a bit heavy on the amps due to extra friction .

Oh and Johnboy , thinking a bit more about it , if the pumps are runnning just not pumping it points to the diaphagm pretty certain , i dont want to tell you to suck eggs but i think that shurflos are not self priming , the water will need to be raised and not just lifted from a bucket , but i reckon you know that anyway , also even if you run it when dry i think you should hear a rapid puffing from the outlet , not noisy but detectable .

Are you saying that I may just Need to prime the pumps properly?
I have suspected the diaphragms in the past

I find it hard to see diaphragms failing to be honest , i have never known anybody that had one go , but if as you have done and Daz does , to just replace then it would not be common knowledge , its just that im a sucker for pulling things to bits.
I would in your shoes check priming of the pumps before anything is even undone , i have in the past got a 2 litre bottle with the bottom cut off , taped on a bit of hose to the pump and put the water in making sure the water is raised above the pump , or just go staight off tank if its easier to do so .
You just have to see it like a hospital drip bag , with the patient being the pump !

I'll have a good go at priming it tomorrow and check for pressure switch faults

I ran for a while without a flow controller, using an aquatap to control flow. I burnt through 2 pressure switches on a pump within a month.

Got a feeling it's pressure switch  problems with the Shurflos

Firstly, you should have the pump BEFORE the DI vessel this way resin cannot block the strainer. Second, no resin should get to the strainer anyway so maybe the vessel internal strainers are faulty and/or blocked? Clean the slits with a tooth brush.

It sounds to me like a restriction via either the pump strainer or vessel strainer. My pump is about 8 years old and never missed a beat- Shurflo.

Both me and my son fill up through the di's
We never pump through them
He gets a small amount of resin in his tank, so maybe a problem with the di's, as you say Peavey

Thought so.
There's a mod you can do with a relay bought from maplins that protects the pressure switch, though I can't remember the part or how to do the mod
It was a few years ago I done the mod, it worked for me, though I ended up going back to a flow controller as the one I use from purefreedom has a built in battery charging facility.
Perhaps someone like spruce will remember exactly how to do the mod.

Another question I forgot to ask is where is his pump mounted?
If it is to high above the tank outlet then without a non return valve the pump will airlock and not be able to prime itself.
If this happens continually then the pump will fail.

Have you thought about adopting/fostering? You could keep the pump and change the Son!! :-)
