Each test was repeated at least three times to confirm result .

CFM is for comparison from motor to motor  ...  i dont have a lab   :) i would say my CFM is about 10 less than the manufacturers stated   ...  but it tells you how each motor performs compared to the next .

 Conclusion -

The 5.7 got past the 10hg mark further that the others  ...  but CFM was quite a bit less

The 8.4 was major a disappointment as they cost me twice the price of the 6.6 but showed no gain in performance

The 6.6 is the best value motor ( if you get it at about £100 from woodbridge )
I will continue using the 6.6  because of its low cost and similar performance to the 8.4

Great tests I suppose you're confirming why many manufacturers of machines haven't gone down the 8.4 route.

True , it seems to be a bit like the 5.7 and 7.2 vacs . there isn't much performance difference .

Hi John, An interesting test would be the CFM and lift readings when the wand is on the carpet. This would give definitive answers about what is best in use.

The CFM meter could be mounted in a piece of hose to give a reading and the Lift reading could be taken off  of a hose connector with a hole in it.

Let us know if you fancy having a go.

Hey Robin  , testing at the wand would be best alright .   Measuring the lift like that is easy enough , putting a digital cfm meter in the system is a bit trickier .
The cfm guage would need to be inline , within the vacuum system ,  easy to do with the omega style inline gauge but with the digital meter like mine its barely possible , I could try and put a connector each side of the meters vane and seal it with duct tape , it would be crude but might work .
Ashbys had some great inline cfm wand on carpet measuring videos on youtube a couple of years back , only problem was the omega guage they used proved inaccurate under vacuum .
Heres an alternative , i took the below pic from tmf ,  this guy has measured the operating lift with the wand on the carpet and then made a round hole in the plastic cap at the size that matched the result he got for operating lift , so he is simulating the wand on the carpet but he can now place his digital cfm meter over the hole .

Good stuff John.

It will be interesting to see the results if you get the time to try it out.

Ha...

They are in stock on eBay and they are cheaper.  ie: no vat and including delivery

I find it amazing how forums and adverting work. ;D

Hi Robin,

Yeah, I've seen your link to eBay and it looks like a bargain, however, I would be extra vigilant on the quality of the product. I have also concerns if this is certainly genuine part but it might be just me :) if anyone has bought from this eBay seller then let me know if it's all fine? :)
