New employee
« on: May 10, 2017, 04:52:36 pm »
Had a new lad start today. After my last disaster with a druggie/alkie who although he had 25 years window cleaning experience was a total tw@t I figured Id try a newbie.

So, after a bit of searching, not much to be honest, I had a young lad start this morning. Seems reasonable, steady Id say. Quiet, gets on with whatever needs doing.

Im thinking as things are today that its newbies rather than older people is the way to go. I may be proved wrong but it was interesting working with him today.

In my experience it takes a couple of months to find out what they are really like...

It's far from stress free, but so far out of the three I've employed things have been on the whole ok. There's always an issue or two irritating me but I think that's the nature. Even the one we talked about is working out pretty well. My opinion is that if you employ full time, with a proper contract and you pay a good rate you attract the right sort. It's a pretty ok job really and it's not a long day.

As said it takes time to get to know them I would say one of the main things is that you get on with them and that they listen to what you tell them, someone that has got bills is the only way forward imo if you get someone young that just wants to spend his money over the weekend is a waste of time. If you can get someone under 30 that will come in on time 20-21 days in a month you are doing very well I would look after them. I had 1 bloke start with me and after 2 and a bit hours came out with well how hard can it be this job it's only cleaning windows,I turned the van round and dropped him back at his house he didn't know where we were going until we pullled up outside his house.

the younger the better .  i wont employ anyone over 30 after having several old lags waste my time

i always ask  over the phone what is your weight and height   .   if they say 6ft tall and when you see them theyre 5ft6  you need to tell them up front you lied to me boy

anybody who is a liar  is best avoided

as a liar  is also guaranteed to be  a lazy type  .

I tried a young lad, must be over ten years ago; he was a wet blanket.  Seriously.  One morning he was crying and I asked what was up.  He told me his grandad had died.  I was like "Why didn't you say?  Look, pack up, get in the van, I'll take you home and you can grieve with your family".

So on the drive home I asked, "So when did your granda die?"

He says "A year ago today!"

It was that moment when I thought to myself, "You're sacked!"

Anyone under the age of 30ish is a waste unless your very lucky, the main thing I want to know is do you have bills to pay so you need to get your arse out of bed in the morning.

Maybe you've had poor experiences relating to employees and motivating them so need to rely external influences to achieve what would otherwise be part of an employers remit.

Using your initiative isn't just an employee thing.

What did you pay them and did you employ full time with a proper contract?

It's window cleaning there's very little you can do to motivated except from tell them once they know where they are going they can earn more money and be on there own etc,90% of em are idiots and that's the truth.

Yeah I am I've had em all the best person you'll get will be someone that's taken early retirment and knows what work is,most people after kids almost straight out of school are looking for cheap labour like I was 😂. Say they are 20-25 they've got a different mind set I did at that age your cleaning windows and your thinking this is not what I want to be doing in 20 years time I've been there, then all of a sudden mortgage and everything that comes with it turns up and all your interested in is i need money. If your living at home paying 40-50 quid a week rolling over and staying in bed not the end of the world for you,if you've got a 20 year old you think is gonna be with you for years the conversation won't be riveting 😂.
