big red stain!!! NOT....
« on: June 04, 2006, 11:22:38 pm »
Hi there everyone,
we have just done a clean for a lady who has an absolutely gorgeous house and she was very picky about how it should be cleaned- no water drops to be left on the taps or any sanitary ware  etc...
As we cleaned the house we picked up one of those plug-in air fresheners that had been left unplugged (not by us) on top of a side board.  It had leaked all over and stripped the polish of the surface and as we moved it a drop (very small may I add) fell on her carpet.
We cleaned it up best we could (it was a feint orange mark by the time we finished and she had a pure wool carpet so we didn't chance using and strong chemicals) and left her detailed description of what happened.  She called up later on saying there was a massive red stain on her carpet and what were we going to do about it?
I am 100% sure that it was not a big red stain but she is very insistant that we have ruined her carpet and says that she has spoken to the company which provided the carpet and they say that nothing can be done to remove the stain!! Is this true?
Also, are we to blame for this as the plug-in was left by her and we always go through with new clients about leaving anything dangerous things lying around before we even do the clean.
Dont know what to do about this... Maybe she's after a new carpet and thought we could be scape goats or something... any advice much appreciated x

Common sense would have told  you to place it on something before moving it, or put it into a bag or anything to stop the drips. These fresheners do  have strong dyes in them, she has probably cleaned up herself and spread it about all over the place.

I do think it was your responsibility to get a professional carpet cleaner in and get it cleaned up properly. It might have cost you 70 quid, but it  would have been worth it in the long run and you would have kept a good relationship with the customer.

Ask on carpet cleaning, I am sure it will be too late if she has used something like vanish on it, the carpet will go orange anyway with that stuff.

If the stain is not removable and its only a small area, you may be able to get it re-tufted depending on carpet type. I believe Servicemaster offer this service, it is worth a try if all else fails.

hi Gary J,
At the time we moved the plug-in we didn't realise that it was leaking or we def would have been more careful.  We're not that daft...
We are in Manchester (Oldham) by the way.
I don't think she's the sort to move all her furniture to the middle of the room!!! I did think of this myself!
I have spoken to her today and we were fine- she was absolutely chuffed with the standard of cleaning otherwise and we are going to have a look at the stain tmrw.  Wish us look!

I'm sure everything will be fine then if she is happy with the cleaning. If there is aproblem  ask on carpet cleaning, there are some wizards over there that can perform miracles.

Good look chuck :)

Hi Diamond,
What happened when you went back? ... this is like a soap opera when you think you have missed the omnibus.
Hope all is well. :D
