Lucky or Unlucky? What do you think.
« on: December 14, 2016, 11:28:05 pm »
So something random happened to me today.  I was cleaning windows wfp on a house, customer goes out and as i am finishing the last window which where Georgian style UPVC with 4 individual pieces rather than just 1 per pane.  One of the UPVC panels falls off as soon as brush touches it.  I calculated i had 15 minutes to spare to get this issue dealt with or i risk not completely all my work before it's dark.

I look over the road, theres a double glazing firm at some house.  I go over and ask for advice, guy comes to see the damage i've done, tells me what i need to do and explains he has some upvc double glazing adhesive tape which i can use to fix this piece back onto glass.  So i scrape off debris on this upvc panel, dry it down, dry the glass down, blade the tape to size stick it on, and put back on the glass.  Job was a good un looked better than before, because it was wobbly but now its solidly stuck down!  All done in like 15 mins.   I should be charging the customer extra for repair work ha.

So i'm still not sure whether what happened today was unlucky or lucky?  Bare in mind there was no DIY stores even remotely near where i was working.

I'm sure some pretty random things have happened to you guys whilst working, which saved you alot of time and hassle.

I would have handed it to the home owner if there if not it would have been set on the window sill, its not our
job to fix faulty window decoration.
I will be very surprised if more of these don't come off in future, I priced a very large stand alone a few years back where the
owner asked me to be careful because the last window cleaner had knocked a few of these off, had a quick look and noticed that a
few of the slats where loose, walked away as not worth the hassle.

I would of watched it fall on the floor, ignored it and carried on working. Not my problem.
Actually that's a lie, I Normally throw it in the nearest bush so the custard doesn't see it on the floor.

Cheeky  ;D

They can and do fall off even taking extra care. But the ones that do customers in general are already aware they are crap.  I just warn them anyway beforehand that if any do fall off it's not my responsibility  to fix it. That way I cover my own arse and never had any comebacks if they do.

I've got 10 new builds . All have got that stick on upvc on the top half and the bottom half is one large pane . . I told em all that I would only rinse the top Georgian effect but scrub everything else . They are fine with that . Every time I go there's pieces that have fallen off . Not my problem . They are hassling the builders to get it sorted but I don't think he's bothered . . So I'm not .

I've knocked these of loads of times over the years. Just keep some no more nails double sided tape in my van and stick them back in. Only takes 10 mins.

I knock them off on purpose. Then charge them £15.00 to restore them back to how they were when I turned up that day.

Last week I knocked 11 off one set of patio doors and blamed the dog.

Well, it is Christmas.
