I'm at the stage were I'm trying to get off the tools but struggling to let go. It's hard getting good guys to stick at it even when paying good wages. Hardest part of this job if growing it I think.

I took a lot of work from other shiners and the story I got more than any other was..... he used to do a brilliant job until these
new guys started working with him.
Sort of scares you off employing especially if in an area where customers will move for quality.

This comes down to what your used to as a customer,
Initially I had a number of customers that hated new cleaners doing the windows even though he was with me for several cleans, basically they want "the boss" however over time new customers know no different and readily accept anyone of the guys cleaning,   Over the last 18 months we may have lost 10 customers 3 of these were price increases - several movers/died and 2 who were unhappy with our cleaning.
Out of 1,200 I don't think that's too bad.

The guys get regular tip money as well, so I think they are doing ok on my behalf

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

You havnt gained 56 regular customers untill you have done them many times.
I also am hitting new custom heavy at present as want to get put of Commercial and retail cleaning as you cant beat easy well priced domestic. Me and 2 others canvassed 42 monthly customers on a 5 hour knock on Sunday on a big new build and some terrace roads off of it but wouldnt class them as regular untill i have done them a good 6/7 times without any issues.
You must have 250/300 customers a week coming in. Fair play if all true and thats the case.

Thought you were moving from domestic to commercial Mick ???

I have pretty much subbed all commercial out to reliable guys apart from a load of local stuff. Im building up a nice compact domestic round up in a new area for something to do and to coin it in to make up the difference from subbing all commercial out.
The long days, working weekends and mega miles has taken its toll.
I actualy have missed hitting days of easy houses.

Seriously? You've only lost 10 in 18 months? We've about 900 and we lose one or two a week. I follow up on why for most and rarely is it a quality issue. It just goes with growing the round. Rarely do I lose a long term (more than a year) customer but it does happen.

I agree about customers getting used to employees though and not the boss.

If you lose 1or 2 a week that's bad I know it doesn't sound a lot but that's 52 to 104 customer s a year ,I might lose one or two a year but only if someone dies or moves out

But we're taking on 8-10 a week. A lot drop out before a year. It is a lot though.

Where are all the brand new vans you bought? I'm confused
We look at them, they look through them.

Aahh, very passable, this; very passable.
Nothing like a good glass of Chateau de Chassilier, ay Gessiah?
You're right there, Obediah.
Who'd a thought thirty years ago we'd all be sittin' here drinking Chateau de Chassiler wine..........
