I have a relatively healthy diet anyway very little meat no cows milk etc,i keep
bread to the minimum although funny enough if I have bread
its normally white processed,i  just cannot digest the more healthier
type and nuts and berries leave me extremely unwell.

I use my lanzaprole as little as possible but at some point I will need
to use it the diets paleo etc do work for some but not for me

That's a shame,  stay healthy bud!

Paleo is good if you can stick to it bud.
One if my BIL's does it infrequently.
But as a permanent lifestyle change-very few will stick to it.
It's certainly not for me.
But I do admire those that stick to it rigidly.

It certainly is, I stuck to the paleo/primal lifestyle for 2 years in my early forties, and it was the best I have ever felt in my life! The last few years I have let it slip due to my marriage problems, the problem is that most of the food we eat these days is made to be addictive by filling it full of sugar or salt, so once you get used to eating it, it is hard to break away from that kind of diet. I have recently gone back onto the paleo diet, and I am determined to stick to it this time!

Some people get that obsessed with trying to live a healthy lifestyle they might as well be dead,
and what do they get for all this ? a few extra years sitting in a old folks home wearing a nappy.
We spend that much time listening to so called experts who tell us this one week and something else the following
week that we have forgotten to use our common sense.
How long have we been told to avoid saturated fat as it causes heart disease, now they believe it doesn't.
Scientists have been making a fortune telling us something that we have known for centuries.
For a long and happy life avoid the following.
Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride. and don't use a ladder to clean windows.

I know an elderly gentleman who recently ran a 24 hour race around a track.  He's 76 years old and he ran 77 miles in 24 hours.  One of the other competitors was an 80 year old who ran 80 miles in the same time period.

Trying to live a healthy lifestyle isn't about trying to squeeze out a few extra years, it's about having a better quality of life during the time we've got.

It should all be about prevention not cure, the human race eats crap food which is full of poisons every single day, and then wonders why so many get ill!!

You're right.  You can see the effect of all the "poisons" you eat every day in this graph of UK life expectancy at birth over three decades.  Clearly we're all becoming more and more ill.  It's there in the graph.  Look.

I think you are totally missing the point! You go back to the early 80's in your chart, well human beings have been around for millions of years, and they are getting unhealthier by the year, we are not supposed to be so sickly, it is because we fill our bodies with toxins every single day. There are countless cases of races of hunter gatherers who lived healthy lives and were virtually disease free, only to be Westernised and take up our diet and lifestyle, which resulted in them being introduced to heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer etc etc We don't need a cure, we need to look at our lifestyles and start living the way nature intended us to.

[/

How long did people live for 100+ years ago?? You honestly think we are worse off now?
Complete rubbish, we have never been healthier, mainly thanks to science and their continuous research. ::)roll
Yet again you are missing the point!!100 years ago is nothing when you think that us Humans have been around for millions of years,  our problems started over 10,000 years ago when agriculture began. Before that we lived as nature intended us to, as hunter gatherers and had done for millions of years. Our bodies adapted to that lifestyle, and our Paleolithic cousins were bigger, fitter, stronger and far healthier than people today, death from diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart disease were almost unheard of, they also had larger brains than people today, particuarly certain members of this forum!!  ;)

I think you could write for Viz.

I really enjoyed it. 2 parts. Week one was the effect of meat (especially processed) on our bodies individually
week 2 was the affect on the environment. a quick snippet- 'one third of the earths usable surface is dedicated to raising meat in one way or another'
And the cow-that really made me laugh. You'll see what i mean.
Great doctor-forgot his name-but find his style very watchable.

Until profit  stops being the ultimate goal for pharmaceutical companies
there will never be a ultimate cure for cancer etc..
Not if there were huge profits from finding a cure?
I don't think someone could resist the massive profits and recognition that would come with ending cancer.
Just make opinion, though.

If they found or released the ultimate cure for cancer for sake of argument
like a gene vaccination ultimately the profit would end why give you the end game
when they can give you incremental increase in better treatment over years and
have a never ending source of massive profit especially with people living ever
longer and the number of people needing treatment constantly increasing.

I know what you mean, Gary, but I reckon someone would cash in or couldn't keep it quiet.
The short term gains would be massive and too much to resist.

I take your point Griff but pharmaceutical industry wields massive power
and this person or persons would simply be paid off and its not totally
outside the realm of reality that they would be shut up or down if it
suited the purpose.
