pencil jets or fan jets
« on: June 10, 2014, 05:32:05 pm »
after only using pencil jets on a superlight medium brush i tried some fan jets on an extreme medium brush today and firstly the extreme brush feels alot lighter on the pole i felt i was going faster!
secondly i really liked the fan jets and im not sure if its me or not but i seemed to use less water and found it gave it a nice spray!
what do you guys reckon, do you rate them or hate them and why?

Oh no!! What have you done!!! You've opened up a whole world of pain and conflict  ;D
Personally, and I think that's what it comes down too, I prefer pencils. I've tried both and thought the fans did'nt give me the same confidence that I'd left them as clean. Maybe overspray, brush on glass thing. Maybe I didn't give it long enough.

i agree i think theres more control with the pencils like you say with overspray etc on the frames but i really like the spray pattern rinsing the glass!

Fanjets all the way. Better and quicker rinsing, like a miniature pressurewasher! I'd hate to have to go back to pencil jets.

More chance of spots with fan jets as I found out. Pencils create a nice cascading water effect that cleans the window better.

Same here. Went back to pencils as I was getting complaints. I am willing to accept though that it was a user issue.

For me fan jets give a far superior clean and rinse, you cover more glass with water quicker and get better sheeting of water down the window.

But you need the right fans, gardiners are ok, lumark are excellent hose brass ones you can get are rubbish.

I could strongly disagree with all the negative comments about spotting and overspray we get none of that with fan jets.

Some of the problems may lie elsewhere, ie, the quality of the pole used, slx nice light rigid of some bendy fibreglass thing, aquadaptor, aqua tap for instant control or are you fumbling about for a tap somewhere sited on the hose behind you, adjustable goose neck for the correct angle or make do with a fixed angled gooseneck

I've seen Windy's using fibreglass poles and no matter what jets are fitted they barely hit the glass and barely the building!

It's like east and west and never the twain shall meet or acknowledge the other, use what gives you the most confidence and that will help give you the best results, trial fan jets for a couple of weeks then give an honest assessment of how they worked for you

But in short fans are better than pencil jets 😜😝😄

Tried fans for a couple of months used less water but was never happy with rinse so drilled them out much happier now

gardiners brushes now have 2 sets of holes and the pole hose t is quick release.
So I permanently have both fan and 1.4 mm jets on my brushes and alternate between them depending on the job. I tend to use the pencils on regular jobs at quite a low flow, including wood sash windows but prefer to use the fans for first cleans of frames, fascias etc. or applying tfr via back pack.
