What do you drink on for energy??
« on: June 01, 2014, 07:48:22 am »
Since as long as i remember i was waking up on a morning printing work sheets, eating breakfast, then going to the shop for a big can of redbull ( that was EVERY morning) some days it was 2 big cans... And at my worst 4 big cans of relentless one day.
So the other week i decided to knock it on the head and now all i drink is, water, juice and very occasionally a small can of diet coke. Its been 2 weeks since i gave them up.

Just wondering if anyone uses healthy ways of energy on a morning?( not coffee i hate that)??
And im wondering if anyone has fizzy drink addictions like i did aswell?

stick with the water definitely but instead of the fruit juice which can in some products contain as much sugar or sweeteners  as coke even the no added sugar types, instead just go straight for the fruit itself, the body knows how to deal with natural produce instead of the refined products,i usually take  to work  big bottle of water ,apples, satsumas, bananas(good anti depressant) and any others that you might like, also for energy porridge is great for breakfast to keep you going,i still dont turn a coffe down if offered one from custys. hope this helps, martin.

You want balance.
Scrambled eggs on whole meal toast with grilled bacon or 97% meat sausages (they're in Sainsbury's & Waitrose)
Drink a big bottle of water every day.
And this may sound stupid but go to bed earlier.
If you know what time you're up in the morning.
Go to bed 8 and a half hours before. (To sleep, not nookie)
Read before bed, not something on a screen. Something on paper. A book or magazine.
Give it a few weeks like that-you'll be awake before your alarm click goes off.

Actually mate, yes, I do.
I have (a massive antihistamine) cod liver oil & a multivitamin washed down with a glass of berocca.
It does exactly what it says on the advert 'you, but on a good day'.
It's not energy per se. But it does do some good. Even perhaps if it's only a placebo...
Tesco do 3 for 2 on these things. (Not the antihistamine)
You won't feel like doing star jumps straight after drinking it but a few days or a week of having one each morning, you just feel...better.
Whatever you do, don't drink a berocca with only liquid in your stomach. You'll vomit. I did-twice.
It doesn't sit well with tea. Have the eggs & toast.

I usually just have coffee at my Breakfast Meeting. Maybe a fat cigar waiting for my tank to fill and Tokyo to open.
And I don't do lunch; lunch is for wimps.
This is window cleaning; there's no time for such trivialities.

I find it hard to eat in morning! I usually have a cup of tea, a belvita biscuit and a banana! All forced down ..........

Although the egg on wholemeal toast sounds very appealing..

I too had a serious red bull addiction. For about 4 or 5 years I used to get 2 cans first thing in the morning. Every single morning.

About 2 years ago now I had a really weird reaction, a bit like my heart was beating irregularly and it scared the poop out of me. I've not drank an energy drink since.

I take a large bottle of water to work every day and also drink plenty of freshly squeezed orange juice.

Incidentally I have just found out that my 19 year old cousin has now got Chrohns disease due to him being addicted to energy drinks. He's apparently been drinking upto 5 cans a day for 3 or 4 years!  :o

I find being fit and exercising regularly gives me more energy, though to begin with it's not easy.

I do like a cup of coffee in the morning though.

I remember watching an interesting investigative documentary on the sports industry in general. This covered food, drink, and footwear amongst other things. They came to the conclusion that with few exceptions, it was all just a big con to get you to spend lots of money on stuff you don't really need.

For the purpose of this post, one of the most interesting, and amusing, sections, was when they spoke to Graham Obree, the Scottish cycling legend who built a track cycle in his kitchen, out of, amongst other things, bits from an old washing machine. When out training, he took water to drink, and jam sandwiches (on brown bread), which, he insisted, was gave him all he needed!.

Personally, i cant go without breakfast, this consists of 2 cups of either Earl Grey, or redbush tea along with, in the winter, porridge, and in the summer, a mixture of muesli and granola with some seeds and nuts mixed in. This keeps me going fine till dinner, and, like breakfast, i cant miss my dinner (though i may only stop for as little as 20 mins).

Volvic flavoured is good. I go through a bottle of that a day. If I remember correctly the lemon, summer fruits and strawberry are all suger free, but orange flavour does have about 12grams of sugar in it (if your trying to stay away from sugar).

I have the odd can of coke, relentless or monster but this is rare, maybe a few times a month if and when I have a very busy day with early start late finish 8pm - 9pm i'll some times neck one. Or also good before going to the gym.

I also find a large strong coffee is a good boost. That's all these energy drinks are, loads of caffeine and sugar. The more you drink these drinks you'll find it wont have the same effect, so you need to keep of drinking more of it to get the same hit. Its like the body becomes used to it.

Instant porridge with extra raisins is what I have in the morning with a banana and a coffee, and a glass of milk. I would have scrambled eggs and toast if I could be arsed making it.

problem with red bull and other such energy drinks, they are so high with sugar they give you a instance high, then you get a big down side effect,

so in a effect think of a big dipper,up,down,up,down,

now to have a good energy levels you need to think you keep that balance on a level straight line  ;)

little and often is the best and not a ltr straight down, also to much water can de-hydrate a flush out all the goodness in you,put we are talking big amounts.

for me breakfast with cuppa, water though out the day,a bite to eat for dinner, more water then tea,and as much fruit as I like

also keep in fit help which I do a little  bit of ;D

Dripping on toast followed by a deep fried Mars Bar for me washed down by a full fat toffee milk shake. Pop home lunch time for bacon egg sausage and black pudding with fried bread followed by last nights Indian takeaway. Tea time is usually a bargain bucket for ten.

I couldn't agree with you more, I was finding it hard to motivate myself and was always tired.
Started taking Berrocca and couldn't believe the difference it made.
Like you say it might only be a placebo but as long as it works I couldn't care less.

Berrocca has been highly recommended so i will go buy some,
Might even treat myself to some tropicana for having glass with my breakfast! After all the redbull was costing me £2.50 or more lol

I always start the day with a bowl of Frosties and a tea with 4 spoonfuls of sugar.

By 11:30 I am ready for a bottle of Locozade and Yorkie bar. That keeps me going until around 2:30, when I may have another Lucozade.

Any offers of tea from customers are always gratefully accepted!
