i got myself some new waterproofs while i was away for the weekend in chester.

north face "monte lema" hyvent jacket £105

sprayway "hydro/dry" all day rain pant £75

both from cotswold outdoors shop.

certainly tested them out in todays rain!came home bone dry plus they dont make you sweat.

by the way guys if your struggling with wet feet i wear bergaus GTX explorer light boots.very comfortable and feet nice and dry even in really heavy rain. ;)

I can't believe that you take your burd away for a romantic weekend and then go shopping for waterproof clothing.  ::)roll
Kinky bugger.  ;D

I have two pairs of Berghaus Explorers - I had to come home yesterday lunchtime because my feet were soaked - total crap! After recommending them a few years ago I'll never buy another pair.

Wife bought me a pair of Regatta Goretex boots from a charity shop six months ago - they haven't leaked yet.  :o

I say this every time and everyone ignored me. Dr martens 'for life boots'. Guaranteed replaced for life when worn out. Totally waterproof and still on first pair after 4 years. They look great as well

I bought these on your recommendation Daz.
I'm about a year in and think they're great.

For those saying they're crap, are you doing anything like putting them on a radiator or in the airing cupboard? That does them damage, impairing the water proofness.
They to dry naturally.

Probably going to go for work boots next -  even though I'm not a fan of steel toe caps. They just seem better value for money.
Doc Martens? Had them years ago and found them lethal on wet grass.

I've gone through about four pairs of cheap waterproof boots, a pair of guaranteed waterproof Hitec boots (lasted two weeks). About six pairs of Berghaus Boots (just don't last) one pair of Brashers (lethal soles that completely wore out in under a year but never leaked). Just trawling the internet now for something decent.

Walking boots are made for footpaths and not concrete. They aren't suitable for work because the soles aren't long lasting on concrete.

I've been using a pair of Hi-tec walking boots for about 6 months:

Still as dry as a bone and very comfortable.
Soles give good grip but dog poope is a bugger to remove if trodden in and has to be hosed off.  ::)roll

I could be wrong but are work boots cheaper than hiking boots because they are vat free?

Don't know if it's the VAT but yeah, walking boots are much more expensive.
My steelies were about £50. My walking boots were about £150.
