300k turnover
« on: December 16, 2013, 10:11:45 pm »
Whilst I was in Santander earlier I had a word with the business manager, not that he actually had much people skills.
Asked him how do I go about getting my custies to pay by direct debit.
He replies I would need a turnover of 300 k for the bank to sort this. My custies pay by bacs or cheque however a few a still late payers, rather than dump I want to give them a chance by setting up a monthly payment.
How does standing orders work?
Any of your custies pay you by DD or standing order?
Im a little bit confussed, can anyone unconfuse me lol

Hi
Just give them bank account number and sort code.
They can pay via bacs or standing order or whatever.
Let the customer sort it out it isnt hard.

so cliff what your saying is that I need to give them a mandate ie sort code bank account, like I do when they pay by bacs?
Someone told me the custy cant stop a standing order,is this correct?
If that's the case I cant see anyone wanting to set up a monthly standing order

Trippyboy,

I've started to use a direct debit service through gocardless.com.
I'll sort you out a link and you'll get £50 credit.
Customers love it, you can request payment after every clean as well, so if your late cleaning, off sick or on holiday then it won't take payment when you haven't actually cleaned them.

all you have to do for a BACS OR STANDING ORDER is to give them your account details, i put mine on the completion slip i leave or hand it them and explain it.
If they want to BACS it over every time you clean they just go in to there online banking system and pay you
or they can set it up as a standing order, ie set amount on a set day to your bank, ie £15.00 on the 16th of every month

direct debits can be done thru company's like gocardless, all you do is register with gocardless, you get your customers email address send it to gocardless along with the customers name and gocardless send them an email with a link for the customer to send their bank details to gocardless and every time you clean you notify gocardless and they notify the customer and the money is withdrawn from the customers account and paid into yours

In my opinion the problem with gocardless is that the customer has to answer the email and provide details just like the customer  i have, who has taken two weeks to answer her email.

There are company's, who for a one off fee, will also do paper direct debits, ie you have a DD mandate fill it in at the customers door and email to the company, fast pay is a company i am looking at

good luck

I had a problem only today with it .
It issued 4 duplicate requests on its own.
Called them up and said it was a bug in there system.
They cancelled the requests made and sent the custies an email explaining it's there fault..

Any other issues?

My main concern would be that the customer appears to be in control of the initial set up. In my experience of bacs payments this can be an issue if they don't follow the directions that you give them properly (incorrectly referenced payments etc).

@Andy*

On your website there is a login page, does this mean that customers can be in control of when the payment is made if they prefer?

Souter,

I haven't had any issues at all.

The login on my website is to login to the backend of my website it's not for customers.

All the customer has to do is register once in order to approve of me taking payments. I'm then in control of all payments, how much £, when's it's taken etc.

I think it's excellent.

Cheers,

I looked into direct debits a year or so ago, maybe more. It is a very different story now that's for sure.

Do you hold back any of our funds?

No, we do not withhold any funds. We pay out all funds minus our fees to your bank account after 7 business days.

I know you have to wait for your money but when it's set up and running its a constant flow coming in. I'd rather pay 1% in fees and spend the time at home with my family than to drive round every night to be told "I ain't got any cash on me, can you come back tomorrow"

Yes & No.

I have all my gocardless payments go out of their acct on the 1st of each month, comes to me by the 10th at the latest, so for the vast majority i get paid before i clean.
