Snow of 2013
« on: October 19, 2013, 11:28:11 am »
So is everyone ready for the snow?

Have you started to offer Gritting Services?   I had a office ask 'Can you grit?'  which all I done is sub-contract this :D  plus what are you going to do with all your pipes in van if it does snow?

if its light snow on the ground then ive found i can carry on with my cold wfp system.i put oil filled radiator in van overnight which is standard practice for me on below freezing nights.

a tub of grit/ice melt in van and a sweeping brush

extra flask of hot water just in case my jets freeze up

start a bit later and finish a bit earlier.

if its heavy snow and very difficult to drive around i take the time off and dip into my emergency fund if need be.

the longest amount of time ive had off was about 3 weeks a few years ago during the heavy snow in january.that was very extreme weather though.not usual here in the north west! ;D
price higher/work harder!

Had the same lost about 3 weeks, very easily pulled back in the warmer months
A couple of old sleeping bags over the tank keeps a light frost at bay if it gets too bad then the van
goes into the garage.
That's another reason why I like the Dispatch it will fit into most garages.

We are ready for the snow,   We have already started to warn customers about safety and how we will not come out if its not safe to work.

I had phone calls saying 'Don't come to my area as it snowing' and other saying 'There no snow lying here' which I said 'yes but there snow here is bad'

However our gritting I done with few office blocks is okay and said 'We will be here as long its not heavy snow'

I have made absolutely no plans, never have and never will, pump and all hoses are quick release and just get taken indoors overnight when its freezing.
To be fair though I am on the south coast and I think you are in Scotland re your post other day about licenses.
Snow does stop me working but not for any reason relating to my window cleaning equipment.
its the road conditions, down south as soon as the roads are white for some inexplicable reason everything grinds to a halt, the council seems unable to cope and drivers seem to be completely inept at driving .

Never had a day off in all the snow just gotta carry on as usual put the fog wash on, Spose I'm lucky as we mainly do commercial so don't have to go down all the residential roads where it gets impossible 😀

Van will go in the garage as normal but when it gets to cold in goes the heater to .
Anti freeze in warm trad water for some windows and doorways and I'll start to stock pile 25 ltr drums soon just in case the frost and ice gets to the ro/di
Plus drums are easy to take in side and de frost than 200 ltr tank or and some long johns for me

This
I am getting new tyres next week for winter and when the temp drops properly I fill with hot water and bring in anything at night that might freeze

Not looking forward to any of that though if it comes again.
Hate winter

I always fit winter tyres to my van now during the cold, too dangerous to drive without them in snow/ice,

My van has to be parked in the car park to the block of flats where I live as it's all permit parking around here. The road out from the car park has a 1:8 gradient that has an awkward 90 bend on it so if I can get up that, then I work.

What makes it worse is that the car park is on the east side of a hill and the road out faces north. At one point earlier this year I couldn't move the van for just over 3 weeks. I was tearing my hair out. I just hope the weather this winter won't be as bad as the last two.

Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.
