How much should i earn?
« on: July 26, 2013, 10:03:09 pm »
How much should i earn when i become  professional pressure washer ? Whats an average expected wage ? I am struggling to make it pay well at the moment but a few more regular customers and a few more services should see a decent wage coming in ...shouldn't it?

I think that once you get your speed up and get rid of the Nilfisk you could be earning £20.00 per hour?

Maybe!

3hrs putting out leaflets 3hrs cleaning each day and you make an easy grand a week.

This formula is so simple it sounds toooooo simple.

For the first month you'll not make a grand but after a month you get a cumulative response from the leaflets.

The problem  is you are a lazy fooker and won't do 3'hrs every day leafleting ;) ;)

It's not how much should you earn, more of what could you earn.
I have just seen the post above, and for me leaflets are a waste of time in my area, my target area is slightly different maybe.
Leaflets can work, but realised there is an easier way to do this, even with quoting.
The sealer strip you did the other week was top work, so why don't you target this market, I'm inundated with this sort of work to the point people will wait till next year to get it done by us.
It really is how you sell your services

I Do you think some people over exaggerate how much profit they actually make/how well they are actually doing.

I just wanted some "run of the mill" pressure washer people to answer to give me some indication of my progress.

Roger.
I like your site and this is no way a criticism merely a question... but i don't see "coatings removal " actively promoted on there. Where do you get this work from.
If i were to specialise in "coatings removal" how to you suggest i go about promoting myself ..apart from the obvious, website etc.
It seems to me your customers already have "trust" in you ,where as as i see it the customer has already had one "cowboy installer" around them why should they trust a "cowboy un-installer"... you first need to install the trust. How do i go about this?

You are right we don't actively promote "coatings removal" but we do have stain/sealer removal mentioned on our site for wood. Most of the sealer removals we do for paving comes from various areas, mainly paving companies/suppliers that have messed them up in the first place.

It isn't about what you know, how you have learned it or how you get it across.

No that is wrong, it is all of that initially - that get's the ball rolling.

Once the ball is rolling it is how you handle yourself, the confidence you inspire, what you give them as an end product.

You can learn people management but it is a lot easier if it is natural.

Roger has built a reputation, he is good at what he does, he understands the chemicals, the application, the processes.

Speak to him - it's like speaking to the almanack on wood restoration.

It doesn't matter that he doesn't know everything, he knows enough to blag it through (if he needs to) and if it is something technical he will find out.

People will always pass on the details of a good, tried & tested service, particularly when they have the money but don't want to be ripped off, niche market, basic service ;)

If Manchester airport asked me for a plan to clean the whole complex i wouldn't have a clue but I could give them a complete breakdown and structure within a week.

I may be crapping it but they would feel confident that I knew what I was doing.

Confidence in your service and yourself ;D

The window to the business (website) has to tell people the same.

I'm a one horse show but my business has cleaned on the Olympic Park - this guy must know what he is doing (is the impression) and he must be geared up for it.

Let's give him a call

Rob ;D

So you have contracts with Resiblock,Smartseal etc to remove "gone wrong" sealers?

No, you are missing the point, don't have any connection to Smartseal, yes we are classed as Resiblock contractors but don't do any work for them. The sealer removals we do are for domestic customers, usually whose paving (patios, natural stone say 9 out of 10 times) that has been laid, and either the company or stone supplier has sealed then with a crap product or just done a bad job.

No again, not mainly existing customers, new custom comes from web-site, recommendations, contact's that we have in the paving field. We get around 100 new customers a year, some will be a once only clean you just know this when you meet them for the quote, some we will offer a maintenance plan so as to get them year on year.
Most of our decking clients are year on year as with the natural stone ones.

How long have you been in business for chris?
Do you offer any other services other than pressure washing?
Are most of your customers domestic?
