As the title sugests.

I'm rewriting my old half hearted business plan, (this time correctly) and am trying to estimate the size of the UK carpet cleaning market.

Does any one have any researched figures, or can they point me in the correct direction where I can obtain such information?

Dont only a very small percentage of the public actually have their carpets cleaned - there must be some filthy carpets and a huge market.

said who ^^^^ that means 100 carpet cleaners make £16000 per year each don't think so some how for 1 i'd say theres a hell of a lot more than 100 carpet cleaner who earn more than £16000 a year.

If your correct, and your not 'waffeling',

that works out that between a population of around 60,000,000 we each spend less than 2pence on carpet cleaning per year.

Which aint good.

Has anyone got anything to add to these figures which is 'hopefully' more realistic?

All I can say is there's about 25million homes in the uk according to bbc and certain other web sites so if someone could work out roughly how many of them houses have carpet, then work out how many of them people actually have their carpets cleaned then the answer will be ......... Not sure but hopefully someone else does

25325000 is the remainder of house holds that either DIY, replace or is of no concern.


The market for household cleaning products on a whole is worth around 1050000000 or in words - One billion eight hundred million. - that's every year.

why do you need to write a business plan? are you trying to get funding from the bank?

if i was writing a business plan all it would say was...

I have average or above intelligence . I have enough money to buy my equipment get some training and pay my bills for 1 year

anything else i put is just waffle, if you don't have the 3 items I mention then don't bother starting. people fail because they are thick, or don't have the money to start, the population or market share or demographic make up of your area  is unimportant..... these limitation won't make you fail

The figures are meaningless for 2 reasons.

Firstly they are at best a guess and worse, complete nonsense.

Secondly as Mike has said whether you suceed is pyrely down to you.

No one knows these figures as no one knows the turnover from carpet cleaning of 'other' companies only your own.

I seem to recall, from where i can't remember that, only 1 in 10 of UK households
ever get trhere carpets cleaned.

Does this figure ring a bell with anyone?

Probally the best thing will to be contact the 'nerve centre' of carpet cleaning, the NCCA, I'm sure they will know.
