I think many would really struggle.

Each year I have 2-3 month dry. My personal view is that if a person can't go a month or 2 without alcohol they are alcohol dependant.

I think the people that should try a month without booze are the people that won't join in.

But Stu, I see a red flag with your drinking.  I think, that if you have to make a wilful effort to go 2-3 months 'dry', that 'wilful effort' shows a certain amount of obsession around your use of alcohol; and that could indicate a problem.  I mean  Wor Lass doesn't make any wilful effort to go 2 or 3 months without booze, but she usually does.  Booze is like fish to her, she can take it or leave it - she doesn't have to say, "Right, I will go for two months without eating fish", because to her, fish (like alcohol) is no big deal.

Have you got a problem with alcohol, Stu?

(I'm just pulling yer leg, matey).

You make a good point, even in jest Tosh. I do have an obsessive personality and enjoy alcohol so I know I have to be careful. Usually after my period of dry I can take it or leave itand probably go a further 2-3 months consuming the odd drink each month.
If I exercise regularly esp during the spring and summer I find it doesn't even come to my mind to drink.
As the nights get darker though, so do my moods. I have a battle with depression each winter and this year as I have done little exercise it has been a tough experience. There is then a danger that I may drink more than is good. I haven't for many years and even now consume well below the recommended weekly intake. That said I feel it is always a good idea for anyone who does drink to take some time 'dry'.
Feel free to message me privately as I respect your view on this matter and it is always good to get the view of someone who has your life experience.

I think you're fine, Stu, seriously!  I wish I never posted that jokey post now; I can pick holes in most stuff if I look closely enough. You've obviously got a lot of self awareness about you, and I think you have a faith too, which is great.  I'm pretty sure there's nothing I have to offer that you don't already have.

Thanks for the confirmation Tosh.  ;D

I guess an individual can only really prove self awareness when their view is in some way challenged. I'm glad you did and do post such things. You could sure help me with motivation to exercise, have you seen my Strava page recently...?
