Our static has two 40/40 Ro's units a carbon and a softener, flush twice a week for about 15 minutes.

Because since I moved and got put on a meter I don't tend to flush that often, hence why possibly, my last set of membranes lasted only four months. I am going to flush for an hour every week now. Just curious to know what everyone else does.

I process water in a soft water area (Cornwall - 95ppm) so I do not have to worry quite as much as some WC's. I like to flush the membrane for about 5 minutes before each tank fill (2500 litres). About once a month (when I remember!) I then also flush for about 30 minutes.

I have had my current HF4 membrane for about 2.5 years and it is still producing water at about 002ppm - input pressure of about 100psi.

Blimey  :o

My tds is around the 300 mark. It has been suggested that my 450gpd system may have been supplied with the wrong restrictor too. I used to get two and a half years out of my membranes.

Which system did you have previously? A 300gpd or 450 gpd system?

that last part makes me green with envy my water is very hard but to be fair my membrane has lasted years flushing as I do
Dave I would be interested on the figures of what your doing
Cost over saving will be interesting.
I don't use a water softener for his reason against what some suppliers say ( not you Alex )

Wish i had 300ppm, our water is 450ppm to start with, flush my ro system (before resin) eachbday for 30 minutes. My membranes been in for over 2 years now, water out of them are coming out at 012ppm.

I'm on water meter too, don't worry about the cost of being on one there is nothing in it really.

Dave any chance you could put a meter on your waste to test this to see if there really is a saving or a cost ?

300gpd

This will be why,  in a hard water area, you are not getting as long from the membranes. By squeezing 150gpd from each membrane instead of the original 100gpd the material is more densely packed and in hard water areas this will lead to membrane clogging and fouling much more quickly than on the original 100gpd membranes. After a while even flushing will not remove this fouling and leads to a noticeable performance difference.

Interesting, wish I'd known that before  ;D
The supplier obviously didn't think it important to tell their customers this.

Has anyone looked in to possible membrane cleaning procedures, citric acid for example?
