For those who employ - Xmas tips?
« on: November 19, 2012, 10:30:24 am »
Hi guys

Bit of a nosey question for guys with staff  ;D ;D

When/if you get a Xmas tip via a chq or bank transfer - do you pass it on to the staff or keep it for yourself??

A couple of yrs ago when I worked for a bloke in town he kept all said Xmas tips to himself - just wondered if that's the norm?

Cheers  :)

When I had 3 guys working for me we used to split tips evenly
We also used to draw straws to see who got first pick of the booze, biscuits and chocolates etc
Something as simple as this goes a long way with staff especially as they have been earning for you all year
They also used to get a case of what beer they liked
Thanks,

for my staff they get all tips inc any bottles e :'(tc and if after spliting there is say a tenner left we put on a lotto with it in which I am included as that would be a rwal bummer pmpl. It would turn you grey over night if they won that and you did not have a stake in it lol but as said before they work all year and deserve a wee heada up

My staff keep all their tips year round, and rightly so. Their the ones out graffting 8 hours a day while I sit in an office.

I agree with Lee I would let them keep tips if I was office based, if I was out with them it would be an even split

If I was the employee and my employer kept the tips given by a customer for the window cleaning, I would terminate my employment forthwith.

You sit in an office 8 hours a day?? Doing what may i ask. Office work takes less than an hour a night and that includes sorting all new customers from canvassing on top of work done and paid online/cheques and sorting invoices for commercial,

Seriously not joking when I say this :
My old boss would openly and gleefully tell us when a chq arrived with a Xmas tip attached
His argument was we got the cash when out grafting so it was even Stevens  :)

When I worked in a factory upholstering for the 10 years previous, the boss there held a Xmas raffle for the staff instead of giving a bonus - but he always made sure there were a couple of prizes less than members of staff, so someone always missed out  ;D ;D

I'm sure someone somewhere said greed was good?  :)

Its called running and growing a business mate. Am I you? no. Is my business the same as yours? No. So why would you think that just because thats what you do its what everyone else does? Your post is a prime example of exactly why I dont like this forum anymore. Your post was nothing to do with the thread and was a dig at something you dont understand.

???? I wasnt trying to touch a nerv. I was only asking what takes you 8 hours a day to do in an office.
I usualy like your posts as your on the ball but that was a rude comeback to a straight question of interest.
Take a chill pill, young man.

hmmm well old man let me give you a brief view.

Accounts - payroll, book keeping VAT returns and general money managment. we turn over 25k a month which requires alot of chasing.

equipment maintenance, vans, filters, poles, are always needing something.

Admin to existing customer base - every day it is constant and makes up most of my day.

planning the days and weeks schedule.

marketing we have delivered over 250,000 leafltets this year. that takes some planning and management.

equipment and product research, right now we are adding hot systems and im spending alot of time looking into the best equipment at the best price and when thats done it will be something else.

I like to be in the office to support my staff should they call and need something. Last week a system battery died. he called me and I went out and fitted the new battery within 30 min and the days turnover stayed the same. I also like to be on hand for the customers at the drop of the hat.

Believe me mate there is never a moment where im twiddling my thumbs.

How did it all start? Did you build it up from scratch? How long has it taken to get you this far? Do you still go out cleaning?

I'm well nosey, sorry  ;D
It's tit bits like his that push me to go out canvassing again  :)
