hmmm well old man let me give you a brief view.

Accounts - payroll, book keeping VAT returns and general money managment. we turn over 25k a month which requires alot of chasing.

equipment maintenance, vans, filters, poles, are always needing something.

Admin to existing customer base - every day it is constant and makes up most of my day.

planning the days and weeks schedule.

marketing we have delivered over 250,000 leafltets this year. that takes some planning and management.

equipment and product research, right now we are adding hot systems and im spending alot of time looking into the best equipment at the best price and when thats done it will be something else.

I like to be in the office to support my staff should they call and need something. Last week a system battery died. he called me and I went out and fitted the new battery within 30 min and the days turnover stayed the same. I also like to be on hand for the customers at the drop of the hat.

Believe me mate there is never a moment where im twiddling my thumbs.

Blimey! 25k a month? I love a good old fashioned success story - good on yer pal

How did it all start? Did you build it up from scratch? How long has it taken to get you this far? Do you still go out cleaning?

I'm well nosey, sorry  ;D
It's tit bits like his that push me to go out canvassing again  :)

Oh i went and broke my rule of not talking about money on the forum didnt i. can of worms springs to mind haha  ;)

it started when I was made redundant 8 years ago. yes I started from scratch for £200 and was trad for 2 years. No I havnt done any labour at all for the last 12 months and almost none the 12 months before that.

I wont be answering nitty gritty questions about money should anyone be thinking about asking. There is really only one bit of advice that is needed to reach that level and beyond. "dont just be a window cleaner, run a window cleaning business" adopt that mindset and see how quickly things move forward.

My staff keep all their tips year round, and rightly so. Their the ones out graffting 8 hours a day while I sit in an office.

You sit in an office 8 hours a day?? Doing what may i ask. Office work takes less than an hour a night and that includes sorting all new customers from canvassing on top of work done and paid online/cheques and sorting invoices for commercial,

Its called running and growing a business mate. Am I you? no. Is my business the same as yours? No. So why would you think that just because thats what you do its what everyone else does? Your post is a prime example of exactly why I dont like this forum anymore. Your post was nothing to do with the thread and was a dig at something you dont understand.

Hey Lee,

Have you found any different forums which are better for people aiming to grow medium sized businesses?  I would be very interested in something like that.

Hi guys

Bit of a nosey question for guys with staff  ;D ;D

When/if you get a Xmas tip via a chq or bank transfer - do you pass it on to the staff or keep it for yourself??

A couple of yrs ago when I worked for a bloke in town he kept all said Xmas tips to himself - just wondered if that's the norm?

Cheers  :)

Hi marko

Not spent the time reading all the posts in your thread so sorry if I've covered others ground? but surely tips should be declared to the ILR? so they can have their share? that's why all monetary tips get put through my business as takings and depending on how well my staff have preformed during the year equates to how well their Christmas cash bonus is paid into their wages, I pay above average wages so if a bonus is factored into their last payday before Xmas then the employee needs to earn it, but I'm a softy so unless I've been particularly pee'd off of see them right. For me Crimbo is the end of the year and id if an employee has worked hard then I'll reward his efforts.
