Upholstery TM or use porty
« on: June 11, 2012, 08:04:41 pm »
As I don't do large amounts of sofas, and use a truck mount, if you're doing two sofas, would you still have the TM running or use the portly, purely on a fuel used basis?

Mr B
If in doubt.....Leave it out !!

i know what your saying,if i get sofas that just need a freshen up i use my portable,it saves on juice and noise
i leave the porty outside and run the pipes in,the tm will always do a better job generally speaking on mingers
if your quick on upholstery use the tm

Why the hell would you NOT use the best machine possible if it's sitting there?!!  Fuel use is nothing for a suite, it's only running 45 minutes.

To hell arsing about with all those buckets!  I did a porty job the other day because my truckmount's been apart for a repair.  Bedroom 8'x6' with a paint spillage, took me almost 2 hours!!!!!  Nearly called in at the local tip on the way home to chuck the damn thing away.

At your prices I would have got a new carpet and taken that to the tip.

2hrs =£200 could get a good carpet for that

Gary,I dont really see your logic !!
By the time you have unloaded porty, filled with water etc you could have the sofa cleaned in half the time, fuel not an issue really, noise well imo   a good thing ,it has the potential of attracting custys.and as you have already said better job ;D

i don't own a portable, if i can't use the truckmount the job  gets passed onto another carpet cleaner... (I've only passed on 1 job this year)

i run the truckmount on low revs and open a small gate valve on the wastetank to allows air to leak in

You need a porty in Liverpool as so many apartments

Agree it is a pain with buckets but still gets the job done

actually your right geoff im talking out my arse ;D ;D
what i meant was,if your running two lenghts of 50 ft hose and 2 lenghts of solution hose to a sofa that is not dirty as such, whats the difference to sticking half a bucket of fabric rinse into a porty i hose and plugging it in,im not saying i do it every job but every once and a while its actually easier? in my humble opinion :D

Using a porty in this scenario when you have a perfectly good TM is great if you want to but one thing it does do is make you glad that you don't use a porty on a regular basis  ;D

I used a porty on upholstery the other day, but that was cos the job was 14 floors up. The upholstery was ok, but the carpet was a nightmare. soooo many dry passes. Was dry foam an option? Whats  the highest floor you`ve ran a truckmount to? Simon doesn`t need to answer ;D

I'll go up to the 3rd floor if i'm parked directly under the window, but this is only with a helper.... if i was alone i would'nt work above the second floor.

We occasionally run our TM  up to the 14th floor of a block of flats it's a pain but easier than buying a porty we would never otherwise use
