Cleaned in the rain pics
« on: April 25, 2012, 08:02:23 pm »
I didn't work today, I do if it's light or showery rain (hoping to get back out tomorow) but not when it's belting down.
For those that do & as an experiment I cleaned my windows today in pouring rain and took pics of one sill and patio door sill an hour or so later after the rain had stopped. Most were ok but these two at the base were covered with bits of muck splashed from the patio & wall with the rain coming down so hard. Not sure I'd have been happy as a paying customer to come back to that, would you? or am I being too fussy  :P

So the glass was clean and 99% of the frame & sill was good ?

im lucky if i get 50% hit rate on a sunny day ;D

If I came home and my windows looked like that after being cleaned in the rain I wouldnt be happy....

You know how a customers attitude can suddenly change? It may not seem a big deal to you but if I saw that every month then after a few I would cancel, I have read enough on here to know that I would then get slagged off for being too picky but what some on here dont realise is that its not just that incident that can affect someones decision. It can be a build up of a load of small things that add up into a big problem and customers then just lose faith. Seems too small to complain about but if it happens time and time again they will cancel....

Not being funny but that's at ground level. There's nothing to say that on a sunny day, 5 mins after you've cleaned it could lash it down and leave with the same result.

Yes it could but that would be a rarity, I wouldnt be happy if I came back and I knew they were done on a day like today. Sometimes it needs looking at from a customers point of view not just the window cleaner....

Was going to say the same thing.
All the years i have been cleaning, and even being out all day today, never had a customer complain about a sill. Most customer are realists, and if they would ever complain, i would go back and rectify. It's not a massive deal, most people have bigger things to worry about and concentrate on.

you know thats my feeling GD, folks don't like to whinge but push 'em far enough and they're gone. Not criticising those that work when it's hooning down but makes you think

know what your saying sunshine W, I've had folks use those leaf blowers on the same street I've clean just as I'm packed up and ready to move    ::)

I get what you're saying GD. Personally, I don't like working when it's pouring it down. Although, done a couple of new cleans today because the custies wanted them done asap.

I'm lucky enough that I can catch up on my round very easily, but for those that are flat out all the time, crack on I say.

Rawhide, I know what you're saying there about the blower. Had one last week with a tile cutter next door just as I was driving off.  ::)

The type of customer who would make a fuss of this is not one that i would want on my books. They wouldnt have their windows cleaned through winter and if rain was mentioned in the forecast they would cancel you on the day.

I have a customer who has the same problem ... she has tarmac infront of her front door (glass top to bottom) and every time it rains it comes half way up same as in that picture but WORSE.

Her attitude is that she cant stop it unless she has a large drive re-done, so she just wipes over it. Hail rain or shine she is happy her windows have been cleaned .... just a shame she always pays by cheque  :D

Pics dont look that bad to me a few specks of dirt . Patio doors and even front doors can be a problem but its not windys fault they should sweep the patio and paths more often .

I only clean windows in light to moderate rain never in heavy rain unless caught in heavy shower i just continue .

I have custys whose doors are covered in splashed up dirt nearly everytime and they look a mess why not get the sweeping brush out then they would'nt look so bad.    Mike

The picture if im right is of a patio door that is butted up to the patio.

When you clean a window that has any plant pot and flower boarder then this will be a common problem not long after the clean raining or not more so when it is dry.

I am quite picky when it comes to cleaning, IMO windows being cleaned in the rain or in the sun makes very little difference.

I would clean my own windows in the rain no problem at all, what is good for the goose is good for the gander

im getting new windows fitted next week, should I say to them not to fit them in the rain as I am the paying customer just incase they get dirty, its laughable honestly.
people can make every excuse they like not to clean in the rain, whilst many of us carry on earning its thier choice and I am not here to try and change thier mind  ;)
does make me laugh how it is rationalised though  ;D

You are right mate their is a difference custy will usually have a job working inside and get paid no matter what the weather is doing .

Unfortunately we dont so we try our very to make a living in all weathers . Thats what we have to do .

When the weather is really bad we have no option but to sit in the house and lose money.  Adapt and survive or go under . Mike

I have always cleaned windows in the rain.....I only stop if it is extreme weather. I realy can't remember the last time I lost a day due to the rain. I havn't lost any customers because of it.
a few occasions a customer will ask me to leave it , but I dont mind, I just move on!
yesterday was realy bad, but I worked , and no one complained. I even picked up a customer.

however , I will point out that I live in south wales , and we do have a lot of rain. our resovoirs are full ;D
stopping because of rain is not an option in the wettest part of britain.

Slightly different cleaning windows to fitting them. I see painters, painting in the rain, which is wrong, I see delivering drivers, driving in the rain, which is ok. I clean windows in light rain, which is ok in my eyes, I will not clean in heavy rain, as you see in the photos the job you done was not finished to a standard it should be, I personally would feel guilty taking someone's money for that.
