Out leafleting in the sun this afternoon with headphones on and as I delivered a leaflet through a letterbox, I was bitten. Quite nasty scrape, lots of blood and went to get a tetanus. Gave the owner a mouthful and to be honest he was clearly quite shocked himself. But the dog is three years old a a snappy little b*****d. The owner swore it had never happened before but I was sure by his body language that he was lying.

I told him that if I didn't hate the police so much I would be tempted to call them (though not sure what they would have done). I got it dressed and a tetanus at the minor injuries unit, but more peed off at losing over an hour of leafleting.

Sorry, you lost me when you said you 'hate' the police, like most people they are tryin to do a job to the best of their ability with in most cases limited resources.

Owner of such animals have to put a warning sign on the door and take precautions E G. a wire grid one can buy fits on the back of the door.If not they are liable as they have not done enough to protect you. I was bitten the same way dropping a business letter my company wrote a letter to owner ,end of it all I got 500 quid.after all what would the posty have to do?

happened to me and i reported it to the police.  not to make a fuss, but so that it was recorded.  i think if the dog is biting the owner should be aware and take precautions.

If you did not have ur headphones on with music blearing you might have heard the snappy little sod on the other side of the door and not got ur fingers bitten . Lesson learned i think .  Mike

I think I will take precautions too.  Next time I go leafletting I will definitely be wearing condoms on my fingers.

Heather Drive on Dunston Park. Nothing too serious, and despite comments above, most dogs do not behave in that way. I have a dog and there is no way that I would allow my dog to be tearing at the letter box every time the postman comes. He would eat my dole cheque!

I used to have some customers with dogs who used to run and slam against the door when I was putting a slip through the door.

It was quite a game getting my fingers in and out before the impact.  ;D

How is attacking the letterbox its job? During the holidays I take my 9 year old son leafleting with me. Some people really are neanderthal.

It's what dog's do, Steve.  It's the owner's fault, not the dog.  I have a dog, and his job is to sound vicious and make a lot of noise if someone comes to our property; he's our furry burglar alarm.

I have a porch and the door to the porch is always kept shut; so postman's fingers are safe.

You've just had a bit of a nip from a small dog, now man up and stop whining.   ;D
