but dont you think you could get more just canvassing yourself i know the customers that ring up are much better but when ever i get a chance to door knock a decent area i get 10 first cleans in maybe 3-4 hours , true not all stick but what stick rate do you get from the ring ins?

i did drop 3k leaflets and got like 3 jobs so i wasn't impressed

Lee, you are clearly working cleverly and hard . . . . . why share it on here ?    I am just confused as to why you would want to give your competition, and others on here an advantage !

i am confuzed by your post ! - what advantage is he giving to the 'competition'  - personally i'm 180 miles away - but extremely
interested in how this all works out good or bad so i can apply it/avoid it in my biz.

if only more of this forum contained such buisness experiences/results/experiments

the massive advantage of leafleting is the system that you can develop.

what lee is doing is developing a marketing and sales system where he has outsourced the leafleting, and the sales so all he has to worry about day to day is the window cleaning.  all the jobs are booked in by a call centre.  the great advantage is that this makes for very sustainable growth.

but how will the call centre deal with the messer kind of customer they cant be trained to sniff out a messer only we are able to know that.

unless they post out some kind of contract which clearly states lees terms

I must admit call centres seem a little excessive to me and I would rather handle 12 calls over 3 days myself but if it works for Lee then fair enough....

call centres are really becoming the norm for small business.  you can get contracts where they'll handle just 50 calls a month, and answer any calls from 8am to 9pm...  so whilst your out and about clients are booking cleans in.

its the best way i can think of growing lpainslessly longterm.

also, if your call centre communicate the T&Cs properly you shouldnt get messers so badly.

leafleting and call centres will cause their own problems of course...  but i think theyre a lot more painless than getting in canvasserrs, or doing it yourself.

4 calls a day should be manageable by a business of lee's size, plus it would be hard to monitor. Can you find out how many times the phone rang and the customer didnt end up coming on board?

Richard seems to get it dont know why others dont.

Imagine this situation.

Customer calls, im out doing something so they leave a message. They leave the phone number their never availiable on, so it might take a few days to a week to reach them. By then they have gone with someone else even though it was my leaflet that prompted them to get a window cleaner.

This situation and many others is now a thing of the past. EVERY incoming sales call gets answered not missed and I dont have to be glued to my seat.

In building my business I have come up with systems and methods that remove myself as I restricting factor in growth and turnover. Our process is more and more automated.

My thoughts exactly....

Lee I am not questioning this to try and score points or rub you up the wrong way, everyone runs their business their own way and thats the beauty of any forum, debate and learning what others do... You seem to get irritated when people dont agree with you.

Personally I just cant see the point but thats just my opinion, at that rate of growth I would want to speak to every customer myself but if it works for you then thats all that matters....

sorry I thought I just pointed out one of the many reasons why we do that? Yes it could be diverted but suppose im not in a position to speak to that person or to writte things down? what then?

Its really just a case of people think its a great idea or you dont get it at all.

As I said I try to remove myself as a limiting factor within my business.

The bottom line is it does work and its worth every penny, wish i had done it years ago. I do not get irritated when people dont agree with me simply because it doesnt matter wether they do or not.

Lee have you found having a land line number on the leaflet more responsive than mobile? 0800/0845 than local number?

To me I see the system that Lee has put in place is similar to using a canvasser . At the end of the process Lee ends up with a list of customers on his desk so he can focus on other sides of his business. Image trying to take 50 phone calls of new customers. It would probably take ten minutes to walk back to the van write the details down and walk back to where you had left your pole. Times the 50 phonecalls by 10 minutes and you have 500 minutes on the phone and thats eight hours worth of phonecalls.

Me personally I'd prefare to be just focusing on the quality of my first cleans looking forward to getting home to see how many new jobs I'd picked up.

I have all my calls diverted to my mobile.
Last year had a leafleter to drop leaflets for me, he would do it from day to day basis and do 1k a day. I was at that time cleaning windows.
Even thought its ONLY 1k a day, i would get pis*** off while doing conservatory roof and the phone rings once, then go to the car write details, back on ladder and a phone rings again and have to go down, get it written down again.

Some times would not get a call for a whole day and some times 3 calls while doing one house.

Thinking that Lee has 10k -12k dropped in one day, I can't see a way of answering calls while working.

Lee well done !! Good luck with your campaign ! I am glad there are people who get so enthusiastic about running a business.

Bang! you got it, simple as that. There are so many reasons like this why its a good idea.

And to answer the other question yes I think a landline looks more profesional and gets a better response than a mobile. Havnt had a mobile on for years. Also dont like customers having my personal number they always call at the worst times! lol

I will be enthusiastic next week!

This sunday 27,500 are going out and I expect to still be getting calls from last sundays drop of 10,000

in the last 10 min another customer has come through the call center from the last drop. She is spending nearly £200 on the first clean with the extras she has asked for. She is also swapping to us from another cleaner and we are more expensive. So that one person has covered a third of the cost of the drop (£600)
