This course is vital for anyone using either water-fed pole or gutter vacuum cleaning. Since 1974 it has been a legal requirement for employers to train employees, and since 1998 it has been a legal statutory requirement for employers (and the self-employed) to be trained when using any type of equipment: see the Provision and Use Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98).

This means that companies and individuals using this kind of equipment without training are actually trading illegally, and if things go wrong the consequences may be severe.

I can understand companies that haven't trained their staff would be operating illegally. But how can this be so for an individual?

I do ladderless with no employees. The buck stops with me if there's a problem.

How is this illegal? Especially since up until now I don't think there has been any officially recognised course available. So are we all gutter cleaning illegally

who decides who is competant to train an employee, years ago there was no training for powerwashing so i trained the employees by means of a free toolbox talk a bit of common sense and getting them to sign that they had recieved the training, now i hear of impact 43 training for using of guttervacs, what experience have they in using the equipment and who authorises that they are fit to train people, surely this course is only going to cover basics such as manual handling, use of electrical equipment ie avoiding working in wet and PAT testing etc and also protection of public whilst using the equipmen, finally the question arises again how much are they being paid from government for each person that takes this course

 thanks for stating it is not funded that is me obviously jumping to the wrong conclusion, but can you answer the rest of my post instead of just putting zzzz and can you tell us exactly what the course will cover and the cost of the course, thankyou

i havnt recieved an answer to the above, so my point being as i have discussed with andrew before is that much of the info on this course will be the same as on many other courses he already runs ie manual handling etc could it not be possible for impact 43 to device a basic course and then have add on elements which we could then train for without going over the same stuff over and over, i havnt been on one of andrews courses so maybe i am speaking out of turn but most other courses i have attended cover the same material for the majority of the time you are there and it really puts me off attending them unless i really have to ie IPAF runs out. This may not be possible for reasons i havnt thought of but i definately think it would be a good idea and would encourage more to attend. By the way andrew i do intend to come on one of your courses just havnt got round to it yet

and have used the equipment extensivly i dont think thats the case hear

if i wanted training in the gutter vac i would go to omnipole at least they know the system from manufacture to using it themselfs

You reckon? I think they are only interested in hiking prices up to make a good profit.

I really would be interested to know what impacts course will involve though. We have done some big jobs with the vac and I'll be the first to admit we have had some hairy moments at height! the weight of the omnipoles ate an accident waiting to happen.

This question only generally arises in the case of an accident/insurance claim/HSE investigation. I would imagine if you have your own laid out, comprehesive instruction course with details of when you gave instruction and for how long and it was documented then that would indeed count as competent training.

It wasn't the first question i thought of. I was gratefull for the funded training i recieved from them, my question would be how many of us would not have any training if Impact 43 had not taken this initiative?

For me, as a product person, the really interesting part here is the introduction of an innovative telescoping Gutter-Vac system. I wonder what this is going to be like and who's product is it? Any teasers yet?

Lets see because at the moment if omnipole are the market leaders for high gutters then there is a need for a decent system to be built
