consumer leaflets anyone?
« on: October 31, 2005, 07:46:53 am »
I keep coming across other CC's offering free consumer leaflets with 5,8 or 10 mistakes to make when choosing a carpet cleaner. one of them states that they shoult NOT choose one who doesn't use a truckmounted machine.
Does anyone know if this information is backed up by a trade organisation.
Did the company write it themselves and if so , do prospective customers know this.
In my opinion, most customers will think this is a generalisation by the CC industry and believe that all Porty users are cowboys.

Anyone have any thoughts on this,

Ben

seems a bit unfair to me, having not long started out money is a little bit tight so a decent portable is all i could afford especially after having invested a lot of money in training and making sure i am qualified to iccrc standard. I wouldnt dream of saying to customers those cc who use truckmounts will just rush your job and charge a fortune. Tactics like these disgust me there is plenty of work out there for everyone which can be achieved with much more beneficial maketing stratergies to the cc cleaning industry as a whole. P.S there are positives and negatives to using both types of cc systems we should be allowed to make a personal preference to which system we use without being ridiculed.
best regards

Im more or less going to be in the same boat as Mat. Going to be starting up soon with a good portable. Having said that, I don't think most customer actually knows what a TM is...as long as you get there carpets clean that all they want to pay for. Having a leaflet saying TM is the only option, is quite frankly stupid. They both have a place in the CC indutry.

Ben/Matt/Jay, you are correct, most custards don't know what T/M's are, I'll leave my steampro 2000 in me van, run an extra hose and like magic I have a truckmount!

You should be selling the benifits of having carpets & upholstery cleaned and not the benefits of using a t/m, if that makes sence.. i.e. having your carpets cleaned will prolong the life of your valuable furnishings leaving your carpets clean, bright and fresher will also help promote a healthy environment for you and your family.. or something like that instead of.. When I clean your carpets I'll use my truck mount sebo duo and microsplitters... what does that mean to anyone other than a carpet cleaner!!!!!!!

These methods of marketing are common place and typically come from the fasttack boys as part of there marketing arsenal. For them to say only use T/M maybe unfair, so what, you can't do anything about it other than offer a defence, low noise, can reach anywhere as its portable and my new machine is a protable t/m!!

Yes, you may be stretching the truth, but so are the T/M boys.  Use fast track tactics to get around it, offer an iron clad money back guarantee, if your not totally satisfied with my work I'll re-clean the area for free, if your still not happy, I'll refund your money.

Why not come up with your own consumer guide!! modify it to your needs, then give it to your customer.  I am sure they are available out there somewhere for you to get some ideas from.

Of course this view will change when I get my first T/M ;D ;D

Ready T/Mers, steady Fast Trackers.. GO!

Gents

the consumer guides come in portable and truckmount version because not everybody has a truckmount.

It does work though and people love the fact that you can give them something to read as most customers know nothing about carpet cleaning.

Get customer to fill in Testominals and show this to future customers this also works well and will get you a lot more work.

Cheers

I did a quote 2 days ago for a 4 bed house, £230, carpets were pretty clean so should be an easy job. Customer decided to think it over and called back today with some more questions.

1, Do you use a truck mounted machine, my friend says they are the only machine to do a good job and lift the pile as well?

I explained the pros and cons and after a half hour conversation, i had somehow been talked into offering a free demonstration, hopefully i can enlighten her a bit.

If i had another extension, my answer to the question would have been " yes madam i do have a truckmounted machine." ;D

Apparently the geezer who did her friends used a rug doctor machine.
