Hi Daniel

Is the control you have been using a 3 button with 3 digit display? I am working on the basis it is.

As to why they are burning out that is difficult to say with out knowing a more about your set up. so can you answer a few questions for me
1) What calibration setting were you using?
2) What was the flow rate set to?
3) what size pump are you using?

4) Was any message displayed just prior to the control stopping?
5) What size water jets are you using?
6) Was the fuse fitted?
7) Was a pump pressure switch fitted?
8) How old is the control?

I know it seems like a lot of info however it may help me identify what is happening to the control.

Ok so its been working for 6 months with out a problem, Something is overloading the control its a shame the fuse was not fitted as it would have protected the controller from the power over load.
Something is forcing the pump to work hard and draw a high current in access of 7.5 amps.

Can I ask what size pump you are using? are you running a 1 or 2 hose system off the pump? have you changed anything recently EG a smaller bore hose?
The control is designed to work with a 100psi pump at 5.2 litres per minute.

It is likely we can repair the control if you want to get it back to us.

The shurflo will run fine with the controller as it is a 100PSI 5.2 litre per min pump.

Us is Spring (Europe) Ltd the manufacturer
please send to
9A connors Yard
Crowborough Hill
Crowborough
TN6 2AD

Can you include a return address your name within the parcel. We will have a look and advise of any cost before we go ahead with a repair.
I would advise that the fuse always be fitted as it will protect the control form a current surge.

mines a pure freedom one(got it with the 50L TROLLEY)and it has a 7.5 fuse fitted.i thought they all had them fitted as standard?ive never burnt anything out.

the flowcontroller  has a mind of its own though!sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt!it has been working of late which is good but i do still get a surge of water when i turn the water off between windows sometimes.calibration 45 and i use 6mm hose.sometimes ill have the flow on 40 and its fine.other times i have to turn it up to 80 to get a decent flow! ;D ;D

You will likely see a short surge of water when you dead end the pump between windows, this is because although the pump stops there is still pressure in the hose for a few seconds.

As for water flow rate that will vary between systems and even between poles. The controller is always supplied with a 7.5amp or 10amp Fuse with the charger version and we recommend in the instructions that it is fitted in order to protect the control against unexpected current surge.
Not fitting the fuse will effect the warranty on the control.

I have had a chat with the engineers on this. All we can tell for sure at this point is that something has created a short circuit and part of the board has burned out. Now as to what caused the short circuit that is difficult to know with out actually standing there and watching what was happening as it shorted out.

The control has a number of protection features other than the fuse which we recommend is always fitted as close to the battery as possible.
The control also has a mechanism that senses the current flow across the control, if it exceeds a pre set level the control displays the OC message (over current) and shuts down to protect the control and pump

In some cases a fault somewhere cause's a short on the board which means the control is not able to shut down and the current burns out the control.

Now dependant on what has burned out we may be able to repair the unit. Can you let me know when the control is on its way back to us at Spring so I can keep an eye out for it.
