Wor Lass is a window cleaner and is also an accomplished runner - she regularly represents East Wales in fell and cross country - and has a corkin' pair of legs. I try to get her to wear really tight shorts when it's warm (or cold/raining/snowing/sleeting/etc).
Welcome back Yoda Hope all is well. There does seem to be a train of thought that you must do something to stand out from the crowd. Some people take that as having flashing lights and a loudspeaker on their van blaring out "WINDOW CLEANER!", some take it as working more hours, or being more accomodating to their customers.I do feel too many people on here try to re-invent the wheel when it comes to business, when you actually don't need to. Look at the basics, get them right, and work hard at keeping that right.
In the late 1970's I knew the owner of a father and son haulage business in North Yorkshire. Peter Liversage has 2 immaculate Burgundy Volvo F88s and equally immaculate trailers working out of the then British Steel on Teesside. He was an a nutter who used to drive in a bowler hat and tails. This was his claim to fame and I bet most transport managers throughout the country knew him. On getting to his destination and off loading he would start looking for a return load. He would crawl into his potential's office on his hands and knees wearing his tails and top hat begging, and very really left anywhere without a return load. When most of the haulers were laid up during the steel strike of 1980, he remained busy. He then retired and died soon afterwards and his son took over the business. His son was always embarrassed by his father's actions and refused to continue in his father's footsteps. Slowly the work dried up and they closed the business and sold the land for housing.Sad but true.Everyone needs something.Spruce
