VW Transporter
« on: July 14, 2011, 09:30:01 pm »
Hi all.

I'll be buying a van soon and was thinking of changing from the normal Transits I buy. I know that the VW Transporters are popular amongst window cleaners so what are they like; warts and all????

What is the maximum size tank they could carry?????

Any problems; The Vauxhalls seem to have dodgy gear boxes; what about these vans????

Fuel economy?????? Room for other equipment?????

Your honest opinions would be much appreciated.

Cheers all ;D

we have a transporter 174bhp - lovely van, solid build quality - no reliability issues yet (fingers crossed).

economy - about 30mpg but nearly all short runs.

Best van for the job in my opinion but maybe a touch too big for some domestics.  Will take 800ltrs no bother.
I've never been to bed with an ugly bird but I've woken up with loads!

Hi I've have VW Transporter 1200 lwb for about 5 yers. i have a 900l tank in it and it cope well with it but the problem it is expensive to repair. i.e. drive shaft £368, oil pump leaking £638, exhauster pump knocking £449, fly wheel damage £886. time for a new van as well. i will be getting a peugeot expert as i have one already and it goes well with a 700l tank in it.

Had a vw Transporter t30 for 2 1/2 years. Got a 650 litre tank. So far the only thing gone wrong is the dreaded fly wheel on the clutch. So as it has 39 000 on the clock he put in a new clutch plate as well. £930 to fix. When I first bought it I had the engine remapped so it now has 149 BHP cos the engine was too flat for the weight. Better on fuel as a result. Good van and no other probs so far...
Hope it helps!!

I've got two. Both lwb. Ones brand new and ones 2006. Never had any problems, not even replaced the tyres on the older one. They are like any other other van i suppose, buy a high mileage one and you'll innevitably get wear an tear costs,or buy new or nearly new with low mileage and you'll have trouble free motoring. You can race cars in them, very quick vans.
