Evening all. The only reason I have my pc now is for my really expensive and dead in it's tracks Window cleaning pro. If it wasnt for that, i'd probably bin the dinosaur. Is there a programme that any of you boys or gals use that is mac friendly? In an ideal world, something that I could transfer all my wcp data to. I know.....I'm pushing my luck now. Aren't I? ? ? ?

I've binned the pc and dual boot one of my macs now.  I so wish someone would write something.

Not much happening by the looks of it lads. Am I the only one who's thought about this

My mate has written me the software in a programme called filemaker. I asked him to produce something that will work for me, ie
Auto rebook clients in after they have had there clean
Auto send out email reminders that their windows are due for the next clean and date
Hold the history of client
Give a value of that client over a year
Amount earned per hour
Projection for the year

so on and so on

It work really well and I am getting him to tweek it as and when I get a spare moment.

It has basically made me have more free time and with the email facility got me more work as I always email them a week before they are due asking if there is anything else they need doing when we arrive. I always get extra work from this!!

I can see if I can get him to post something if you wish?

I use george on my mac.  You will need to buy software called crossover but that's only about £20.00.  This software means you don't have to install windows on your mac.

You don't actually install windows, it's a program that means your mac
Can read window documents, another good one I use is docs to go think

I use Parallels to run Window Cleaner Pro on my Mac. Keeping it simple, Parallels allows you to install Windows on your Mac without having to dual boot. A similar piece of software is called Virtualbox which is free if you want to experiment.

Mate, without sounding like a numpty(I hope,lol) i wouldn't even know how to download it. I just went to virtual box and run a mile :-(

Could be an issue there then! Codeweavers (as mentioned above) is worth a try as well as it's a bit more user friendly. George should work OK with this because as far as I know it's based on Excel and Excel is one of the key programs that Codeweavers works well with.

As an aside, it will be problematic moving from WCP to something else. The WCP data is encrypted (from what I can see) and can only be used by WCP. And there's no export facility to allow your data to be taken out of WCP so you're locked in to it. The only way out is to print off all your customer details and reinput them into your new program.

That was the main thing that put me off it.  If I didn't like the program, it would be a whole load of messing about to start using another.  I did consider using WCPro alongside my current system so that WCPro would be easier to ditch if I didn't like it.  However, I felt that the lack of an export facility was a flawed concept so I decided not to bother.

Wow......£200 just to be shafted once then er twice. So in effect we're"locked" into a programme that is effectively redundant. Unless...............

As mentioned earlier you can run the windows environment and relevant apps on a Mac.

You might also consider a cloud based app such as Aworka, it works through the web so it is not machine specific. There is a monthly charge of £10 (which may be an issue) but it is a fantastic app with fantastic support., They do a 6 week free trial at aworka.com.

ive looked at the crossover website and george isnt listed as a program that works with it.
do you have to do something with the software first to make it work

George is too small a program ie not used by enough people to be listed on the Crossover website. From what I've can glean you get Crossover, then install George as normal. If it works fab, if it doesn't then crash and burn baby, crash and burn  It may be worth emailing the George developers and see what they say. They know their program better than we do.

What's the verdict here on all the window cleaning software - if there was a cheap web based solution would everyone use it?

I'm looking into developing a window cleaning software solution for you guys but want to get a feel for what is actually required..
