Write her a "court" letter.

Then if she doesn't pay you, move on and forget about it.  There are another million customers out there.

do NOT resort to any underhand tactics as will will look bad on you if anyone finds out.are you that desperate for £20?not worth it.although i would knock again when im back in the area cleaning the neighbours for example.

i remember all the ex customers who ve knock me over the years and exactly how much they owed me but i never get it back.must be a fair few hundred quid over the years.all businesses have bad debts that never get paid.its a bummer but in the great scheme of things its nothing like plumbers, builders etc which can get ripped off for thousands at a time.

True that it's comparatively small amounts. My brother in law is a haulage contractor and he's been really ripped off the in the past.
I just don't let my chasing for the cash actually cost me any money, I text (they are free anyway), e-mail  or leave notes when I'm in the area. We've had 3 in the last 3 months totalling about £50 quid who clearly had no intention of paying but they all have paid up in the end because I said if they didn't pay I'd charge them for collecting. They just know you mean business! Got a £10 cheque come through yesterday. Just kept sending the same text every week for 3 weeks - worked like a charm!  ;D
PS I always sign them off from the accounts department as well because they think they are dealing with a bigger business!

Try a letter like this;

[Date]

Dear

Reference/ Account number:

You generally pay your account promptly although lately I have noticed your payments, though regular, are consistently overdue. Is there any special reason for this? Extended credit is an overhead we both have to fight and of course prompt payment enables us to keep our costs down so that you benefit from competitive prices.

We are exercising our statutory right to claim interest and compensation for debt recovery costs under the late payment legislation, as we have not been paid according to the agreed credit terms.

Will you please send your payment for [amount] today to enable us to continue to provide you with the prompt service you rightly expect from us.

Yours sincerely,

Credit Services Manager

Amount overdue : £

Interest : £

Debt recovery costs : £

Payment terms : X days from date of invoice

Credit limit : £

nice letter c-thru you could add this to it,
Please note, for your information this may harm your credit rating if we have to use our legal department to reclaim missed payments. This will affect your future lending and borrowing.

On Friday I managed to catch a long term hider out, I went round in the afternoon and parked van round the corner, walked round and got him on his drive, he made excuses and said he would go to cash line, so I said no problems I understand I will wait as I have nothing else in the area to collect, he came back twenty minutes later with my 20 notes and I thanked him and left, on return to home I crossed him from my list, on Saturday morning I got a message on my phone cancelling my services. on Saturday afternoon I got a call from an ex customer asking why I haven't been in six months, I explained she owed so much, she apologised and said if she paid today would I carry on, I said yes and collected the money, she asked when I would be back, I replied never.

I can do without customers like these ;D I had already written the money off so getting paid was just a bonus

Just forget it. £20. Is it worth all the hassle?

It happens rarely but if a customer obviously doesn't intend paying I walk away and forget them. Also, I will go to 2 cleans with out payment but no more than that.

Reading some of the replies written, some of you have serious anger issues.

It's like the postings about getting the customer to sign 'terms and conditions' before cleaning their windows which include terms of cancellation and late payment charges.

It's simple, worry about those who pay and give good service to them and forget the few who don't.

As for all that stuff on that form about reference/account number...... interest.... debt recovery costs.............. plus all the other rubbish.

You must be some type of idiot to go to all that time and trouble for 20 quid.

Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.
