gutter facia & soffit cleaning
« on: June 29, 2011, 08:22:22 pm »
ok so a couple of my custys have asked for this service as of late, but i always turn it down cos it just seems like a pain in the neck job (no pun intended  ;)) with water fed pole

i saw some pics once on here of S.A.J (i think it was s.a.j anyway) cleaning external plasticl gutter sofits and facia with a "telescopic preure washer thing" now that looked like an ideal tool for the job! but ive always thought wfp is not an ideal tool for this kind of work  ???

whats everyones opinion on this?

thanks

I do gutter and fascia cleans trad style. I wipe with a wet mop head, then dry off with a microfibre cloth.

Did one yesterday (front of house). Took less than half an hour, but results very pleasing, and was happy with what I earned from it.

It's the easiest money you'll ever make.  If the gutter's clean it takes half a minute a metre.  If it's filthy, two minutes.

Gardiners dual trim Superlite standard on the end of your pole, hardly angled from the line of the pole.  Give the gutters, etc a quick spray over to get them wet, then by the time you reach the other end of the run, the first end will have loosened.  Wash them and marvel at how what looks like baked on dirt and algae just pours off.  Go at the brackets from a slight angle to ge the dirt out.  Rinse the lot.

Let the drips form, then run along with the brush with the water turned off to get rid of them.

The only reason it is tough work is that you're holding the pole in a different way.  Charge £2.50 a metre and you'll get over the discomfort..

go for £4 per metre and you will be closer to a realistic price , even at £4 per metre its still cheap compared to what some people charge .
for a average 3 bed semi £135 is what i charge and all them i do are repeat yearly cleans .
dont sell yourself short on this type of work .

i cleaned a customers windows yesterday(£10) and cleaned the small fascias under the gutters.charged £40 for the fascias.took me an hour  to clean.they were not too bad.squirt of water and a good scrub and rinse.job done.£50 for an hours work and im happy.

i try not to be too greedy for this type of work as my existing customers just wont pay it!£135?i wish!!i did one the other week and charged £75 for both windows and fascias.took me 90 mins from pulling up to driving away.thats good enough money for me.im fast though and very rarely need to use tfr.pure water or hose on custies outside tap is sufficient.

existing window cleaning customers prices for this type of work tend to be cheaper than one off cleans.

Convert a wfp

take off the brush (keep the hose)

get a 5L garden sprayer from B&Q

they come with a lance from the trigger to the sprayer (cut the lance in half)

Fit the pole hose at the brush end onto the sprayer end of the lance (you will need hot water, alot of patience and a jubilee clip / o ring to secure it)

Then you have a choice of fitting the trigger end to the pole or having it loose.

Personally i prefer it fitted on the pole.

I gaffer taped mine on at the bottom, but see where feels comfortable for you.

Once the trigger is where you want it, then attach the pole hose from the bottom of the pole to the lance - trigger (again securing with o ring / jubilee clip)

There you have your own sprayer.

i'll get a picture of mine tomorrow if you want GB

Please get a picture, I will send you some cookies for your answer (let me know where to ? ) :)
I have been asked to do conny roofs and fascias for 4-5 customers once I get my system. I will need a sprayer.

BTW.: Blue Frog Systems could you be kind to check my thread about help needed to get a system together, as you sound experienced.

Thank you

We found this is the best way of cleaning under gutters and conservatory clean, basically we use customers high pressure main water which is round  40-50 P.S.I. and then rinse it with purified water, much quicker.  :)

I do the same as previously mentioned, use the customers own external tap, you dont really need 'Pure Water' to clean gutters and UPVC but dont tell them that!
make them feel that what your doing is special, if they realise they could do it themselve's we'd all be out of work and profit!
having said that I still would like pics of system to spray with TFR from ground floor before cleaning, a conundrum Iv'e been playing with for a while now. I usually climb ladder and spray with garden handheld pump spray, would love to be able to do away with the climb.......
