British Gas Policy
« on: May 27, 2011, 08:52:26 pm »
Was doing a job this morning, flight of stairs, and was on the bottom steps, at the end of the job, when a British Gas employee knocked on the door, to fix some dodgy sockets. A minute later he brushed passed me on the way up the stairs. Excuse me I said, could you put on these blue shoes, as I`ve just spent the last 30 mins cleaning the carpet. No he replyed, there a safety hazard, I could slip and hurt myself. In that case I replyed, then British Gas is liable for a re-clean if you dirty the damp carpet. Anyone else heard of this policy?

I think it's I'm not going to wear your stupid gay overshoes policy.

He has a point and it's probably correct though.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Yeah, i've never had a problem with getting tradesmen to wear overshoes.

Think that gas man was just being a tit.

The Brit Gas man that visited us, took his boots off outside the door. I remarked that's good of you and thanked him. He said it is in their remit to do so as they do not wish to face bills for cleaning (good point). Apparently they have been told by their bosses if they make floors dirty and BG have to pay then it will be deducted from wages....how true that is I don't know, but it made a difference from the normal "all right love" don't give a wotsit type :)

Did a job last week BG engineer made mess of stairs carpet and BG had to pay our Bill.

Gst a job a month from shoddy trades people who walk grime in because they cant be botyhered to cover carpet or ware overshoes.

If it was their business and they were paying the bill they would take more care.

We carry runners and the first thing we do when we have greated the customer is lay out the runner. Prevents marks from machine wheels on wet days and creates a good first impresion.

We had a situation a few weekends back when doing a transport office carpets.
One of the guys doing some vehicle maint asked if it was ok to walk across the carpet to see someone.
"Yeh no probs" said I "Just put these over shoes on because it's still damp"
"I ain't putting those on I'll just take my boots off"
"Ok you'll have to do that then"
So he did ;D
Prefered to have wet socks than wear over shoes, which was no sweat to me as we'd spent enough time already getting off all the grease off from other drivers who didn't give a toss.
